I have a semi-custom LBS built stumpy EVO carbon, S2. I don't ride hard like 80% of the folks here, but I have my moments. I'm 172#'s, down from 185 and point being I am not (or shouldn't be at least) stressing my frame. I frankly think you will love the stumpy. I am not sure what components come on the base and comp. Everything on mine is rock solid except the 52T Al largest sprocket. I have managed to chew it a bit but still is quite functional. Have fun and DAMN glad there is some selection for you. I assure you this has not been the case for near 2 damned years!!

@Pablo8 the Devinci’s aren’t in stock, well, the alum frame was, the carbon were the rental/trial bikes. They should be in next month from what the owner said. I was so appreciative of his time, letting me try 5-6 bikes, as he had to put pedals on most.

The Stumpy’s are in, so….that does make it nice. The components on the comp are SRAM NX and Fox. The base is SX and RockShox/XFusion shock.

Just a matter of if I want to wait and chance the Devinci bikes actually coming in to the shop or not. I do know what has gone on the last few years of supply. Crazy! Thanks for the comments on the Stumpy as well!

Last year I would say jump on something if you want a MT bike to ride. At this point, patience - what you are doing - seems to be best. Good luck!

Base vs. Comp really comes down to how you will ride, IMHO. I have insufficient knowledge to talk up/down (m)any components. I have Fox DHX2 Performance Elite Rear and Marzocchi (Fox) Bomber Z1 coil front. They seem stout and well balanced for my riding and when I dial them rock hard on the fly, pavement seems "normal", yet full soft flying washboard is easy.

Yeah moving DOES suck. But afterward when finally it is time to get the taint growing again and it really enjoy the new place - it's kinda like the making up after a gnarly fight about how bad the taint is.............wait.........moving sucks. I don't advise it.

Anyway, went for a ride. It was awesome.

Someone was asking about riding specs the other day. I mentioned geezer yellow night driving glasses. These things are absolutely fantastic in shadow and light riding here in the PNW. When sunglasses are too dark and clear glasses are not enough. You can select a ton of varieties on Amazon.

    Something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Driving-Gl...775657&sprefix=Yellow+nig,aps,244&sr=8-8&th=1

Also, my new $110 Smith MIPS hell-mut.

@asuchemist where is your buddy located?

I’ve located a few bikes I have interest in. But….pushing the budget. So, instead of looking at bikes, I went riding this afternoon. It was a great ride and only saw two people while out for 2 hours!

I have a bunch of miles (~800) on a '20 Django Carbon. It's an excellent and reliable bike, super capable. I ride that thing harder than I should, on terrain it probably doesn't belong on, and it's fast and comfortable.
Here's my review if you want detailed information.
