Agreed. Something doesn't look right there.

Looks like it may have been ridden loose for a while. Looks pretty dry and dusty too.

@levie125 you have my attention on this bike/boat/death trip. Let’s discuss. Spring would be nice.

I cleaned out all the grease to see whats going on and then took the picture - probably smeared a little dust in there with it. I ended up ordering a new freehub - I can see bare metal on some of the grooves for the pawls so I think when it was slipping, it definitely marred up the actual body. No reason to cheap out and pinch a penny when I could just get a new one and call it a day.

I’ve got a bigger loop planned for maximum single track but the final road part scares me on the bike because of motorists at highway speeds. I think from my house we could make a run up through the north side of Monte Sano and head east to the flint.

Thanks for the pro tip on duration of float. The first part of the water journey has no dam. The other part does but it really doesn’t affect the flows unless they open the floodgates.

Yeah you’ll have to show me these loops or routes you have planned.

New to this thread. Have a Trek Verve 1, looking into locking mounting options for the bed rail. Used to Thule and Yakima brands as they worked will for me in the past. Anyone running the Yakima Locking BlockHead on their bed header rail? Pros and cons?

I usually steer customers away from something like this if they're looking for actual security. It's pretty easy to pop the whole thing off, depending on how you mount it, and a bike is easily separated from it's own fork. You still need something to secure your front wheel if you're leaving that in the bed as well.

If you're looking for some reasonable security when popping into a store then it will likely do the trick. If you're looking to leave your bike in the back of your truck in an empty parking lot while sitting down for lunch I'd look for something more secure.

I used a non-locking mount like this in my old truck. But I had welded a d-ring to the bottom of my headache rack that I used a cable and u-lock to secure the bike and the wheels. The mount, cable, and u-lock cost less than the Yakima mount.

Oh it’s definitely compromised. I could probably fit a pencil in the hole.

Enve said $750 to replace rim. Me sad :(

Well that's silly pricing. Too many options out there nowadays to gouge like that

I had a similar soft spot on a Reynolds rim. I did ride it 2 or 3 times, but then I broke a spoke or two on 3 consecutive rides. As someone else mentioned, structural integrity is compromised. Definitely get it replaced now before a more catastrophic failure.

My LBS rules - they did all the warranty stuff for me. I got a brand new rim & spokes (laced to my original hub) in about a month . Lifetime warranty already paying off! FYI - I did have to pay for the spokes and shipping, which was around $60.

$750 for a replacement rim seems a bit outrageous.

    not enough.
Yeah. definitely not gonna look into riding anything till march/april time frame.

I was gonna say, replacing the pawls and springs isn't too difficult usually but looks like other's have already chimed in and todl you to replace it. :) looks pretty bad.

hmm never had an issue with the locking mounts before. The seemed very solid and locked in well. It would be mostly for transporting. If i was traveling far over night, id just bring the bike into the hotel room lol I live in a small beach town, very low crime so i wouldnt be worried if i left it in during lunch. I think the blockhead would work well for me.

They do seem to be rockier/more technical in an existing resort footprint from the Pinkbike coverage of prior races I've seen. I know there's not really anything resort style that is equivalent to what I see at Windrock, and perhaps Snowshoe here in Utah. Canyons Resort in Park City did host an event like a decade ago, but they've torn that track out to make a ski bunny slope (I wish I was kidding) so that's a non-starter. Colorado could prob be a good option, maybe the parks in SoCal like Big Bear as well but I'm not familiar with the terrain there for biking.

I'm sure we could develop some ridiculous stuff out here, but that all takes BLM/FS approval, lots of paperwork, major funding, etc.

I think it’s mostly because the population is much more dense on the East Coast.

The Massanutten race in april is super technical. I don't think the course is that long, maybe like 2-3 minute pro levels. The bike black diamond stuff on the bike park side is some of the most technical riding I've done, from my point of view the trails require a DH bike unless you are riding a ton.

I haven't ridden snowshoe yet but it's supposed to be super fun.

I also havent ridden sugarloaf but I visit about an hour from there every year and would also expect that to be pretty technical.

If you are asking about east coast riding in general, it's pretty awesome. Lot's of up and down riding. If you are in the mountains then you can get 1-2K climbs straight up with tons of fun, technical descents. Expect lots of rocks and roots. Some clubs will add flow for accessibility.

The $750 pricing is because I’m the second owner of the wheelset so the $750 is 30% off the MSRP. It may also include the price of rebuilding the wheel but not sure.

But yea Enve has always been on the upper end of pricing and has a lot more competition these days. Weighing my options, thanks for links guys!

Plus shorter flights/logistics lines for EU racers, etc. Only a few hours different, but still. Plus I imagine its an economic booster for areas like Snowshoe which are pretty sleepy otherwise.

Dude, that’s more than half a complete new set for most carbon wheelsets.

Did you state what size they are?
If 27.5 you can get some Santa Cruz reserve cheap at Colorado Cyclist.

Contact SpokeX out of California. Hunter Savoy is the owner and he’s been excellent to deal with on my WA1 project. I’ll use him whenever I can. Explain how enve is ripping you a new one and he may discount you some on a wheelset.

customwheelbuilder.com also may discount a wheelset for you about 10%. Don’t be afraid to ask they may work with you.
