It’s amazing what happens when you let innovation do it’s thing. There are some awesome construction methods and techniques being used now-days, it’s a great industry to be a part of.

lolol. yeah, i've looked at air compressors for my truck but...just haven't splurged just yet for it. busy buying other shit for the bike. lolol. airshot is a really good low cost option for it.

yeah, i think they did the same thing for a bridge over in AF during that Lehi construction of the 15. Kudos to them. it's pretty cool.

They have thousands just getting all the excavators there. Trucks capable of carrying machines that large usually won’t even load them on the trailer for under $500. Crazy thing is my first month at Caterpillar dealer we paid $26,000 to transport this sold 836 from Illinois to Alabama.

I’d be willing to bet every machine there cost at minimum $1,000 and that’s if it just moved 10-25 miles. Diesel prices have transportation all screwed up, but I left transportation for parts in February. There’s so much money flowing through parts it’s mind boggling. Single hydraulic cylinders costing $15,000 and such like that.

Oh, I was just teasing a little. The Lehi project was like 50% over timeline on a 2.5 year project.

To your point, the logistics of it all alone is staggering. I used to do the accounting for OshKosh Defense on a DoD refurb program of heavy construction type vehicles and their transport to and from the various bases. So much money changing hands

Have I missed any good tire talk lately? Decided to keep the Evil Following, so it's tire time now. It has a pretty fresh 2.5 DHF Maxgrip up front so I'm happy there. Trying to decide on a back tire. On my last bike I had just updated to Dissector in the rear (DHF front) but only got a couple rides before selling the wheelset and then bike, so no real takeaways on it yet. This is my only bike and will be used for everything. Mostly PNW and MT in foreseeable future, but want an all around travel setup. I had a couple thoughts:

Keep it simple: Get a Dissector for the rear and call it a day. I'll have the existing somewhat trashed DHF I can throw on for more rugged/mud stuff
Multiple setups: Buy a Dissector and maybe something like a Rekon. Dissector in the back with DHF for general riding, once more high alpine summer XC riding kicks in swap the Dissector up front with Rekon in back for lightweight fast mode. Swap back for travel probably. Then still have the extra DHF for f/r winter mode.

Other thoughts? Tires I should be looking at? I've been on Minions mostly the last 4 years, but the idea of a set of fast tires for longer XC missions on the Following is appealing. The Bontrager SE4 seems like it could be an option for a rear tire too. I know some on here like Vittoria.

i'm running an aggressor in the rear of my following and it's been great. dhf up front. keep the traction where i want it. aggressor still has TONS of life left in it and it works great for trail/xc riding and mid summer riding. I've heard of folks running dissectors front and rear and have heard good things for trail riding. enduro dh-ing...not so much.

I've run the Dissector/Rekon combo on my 130 bike. The Dissector is definitely not a front tire, and the Rekon is a decent "all-season radial" tire. That said, the new/current Specialized Ground Control easily beats out the Rekon in that category.

Yeah Aggressor is another option for sure. Probably not a candidate to do double duty as a front tire for a fast XCish trail setup.

I've heard the sentiment about the Dissector not being a front tire a couple times, but have also seen many people like it for that. It's mainly a perspective thing I think. I ride with an XC kinda dude that has probably never had a tire anywhere near as beefy as a Dissector and would probably be amazed at the traction it provides. Just looking at it, it really looks like a mini-DHF so is it just ultimate traction why you say it's not a front? Haven't looked at the Specialized tires for a while. Used to run a Purgatory/Ground Control combo on a steel hardtail that was pretty good. Had never ridden Minions at that point though so...

I haven't been a fan of the 1-up copies I've seen come out so far, but the rocky mounts one I can get behind. Looks pretty nice and easier to operate than the 1-up in terms of the flip up action and the wheel arm locks

What, you don't want to pay 1500 for a 2 bike rack from kuat with kashima coating and pistons?!

I’m in a similar boat. Currently running a DHF (front) Aggressor (rear) on my Following that aren’t trashed, but could use a refresh. I have on hand and was planning to run an Assegai/Dissector combo. For whatever reason I’m second guessing if I should opt for a faster rolling setup.

I’ve got a Reckon front/rear on my Chameleon which I’ve enjoyed for what I ride most often. That’s the main thing that has me questioning if I got sucked into the traction hype of the Assegai.

Yeah for the same reason I ended up on a Following and not a Ripmo or something, I'm wondering how much tire I really need. Not trying to weight weenie or anything, but especially those days I'm doing 20-30+ mile kinda mellow rides chasing people on 24lb bikes with XC tires I find myself wondering just how over biked and over tired I am. DHF/Dissector combo seems like a reasonable middle ground for everyday riding. But for the cost of one more tire it's tempting to add the versatility of a fast setup.

I do feel like I ride my front tire pretty aggressively though, and I may very well find I don't like having to dial back at all on riding style. There's a good chance I might find the extra straight speed is worth the reduction in traction.

How do you feel about the Rekon in the back? I assume it's a pretty massive change in riding style/confidence when you are riding a Rekon up front?

I don't have a 1-up yet but when it comes to their style I don't think the new options can really compete other than availability (i'm assuming). For me one of the huge perks of 1up is the size, when I see cars with 1/2 rack 1ups it barely sticks out. I kind of look at the copy cats like why would I pay 1up dollars for a rack that is the size of my current Thule...

I haven't checked but I'd assume you can buy the copycats at shops and REI which sucks for 1up and the OG designer that started his own company.

Fair points for sure, and something I too will need to evaluate as my front tires see more abuse than the rear. I’m definitely not after weight wennie status, but my daily stuff is pretty mellow comparatively.

Honestly I can’t really compare the Reckon front/rear directly to others as the bike I have that combo on requires a very different ride approach than that of my Following. I can imagine it’d still be fast and predictable, but likely wouldn’t bail me out of my mistakes like a grippier tire would.

I ride a Dissector in the back and it rolls a little bit better than the DHF or the DHR2 I've used in the past.

I have today off as it’s my sons 3rd birthday. After dropping off his sister at school, I asked him if he wanted to go ride bikes, to an amusement park we frequent, or to the park. He said, let’s go ride the tracks. And so we went. Thought I’d share as he made me proud with how great he’s getting at riding. Can’t wait for his training wheels to come off. His sister learned to ride without them by 4.
