Scope out Commencal's line up... pretty decent little bikes. I just saw they have a little e-bike coming soon... that would be rad.

I picked up my little guy a 14'' Ramones second-hand off pink bike he loves it.

You guys remember me posting these wheels in the past.. look at this.
If they drop down to $650 I may bite lol.
I assume they keep coming down because the 27's are discontinued.

Funny you’d post that. I’m in the market (want not need) for a lower to mid level 29er wheelset. I need to check them out. Looks like Colorado cyclist if I’m not mistaken.

Had plans to pickup some Bontrager Line Comp 30s, but current availability is looking like September according to my LBS.

Most other options that tickle my pickle are approaching the price point of those SC hoops.

Early morning temps are still nice in the desert. Another month or so and it’s gonna be night rides until September.

The hoops alone cost more than the $850, everything I've read says Hope PRO4 hubs are bulletproof, and even though the 27's are discontinued you do still get that Santa Cruz warranty.

Christian Peper designed and managed the build so its a hella legit set of jump lines. But as such,

Overall, pretty new to tubeless but like it on my mountain bike so figured why not try on my 2014 Cannondale CAADX which mostly sees forest dirt/gravel roads. Picked up a new set of Schwalbe G-One tires while I was in Germany that are tubeless ready.

Had wheels taped, put tires on, inflated with air compressor but can't seem to get the POP when the bead seats. No obvious leaks by feel or listening, tire holds air, bead seems even all the way around but still no pop. Tried the soapy water to help lubricate and noticed that I am getting a bunch of soap bubbles (air leaks) around spoke nipples. Isn't that what the tape is supposed to prevent? Would sealant stop the leaks around the nipples? Also, still no pop for the bead seating.

Anyone have any other suggestions or am I wasting time trying this with an old set of rims? I have tried google but seems like I am doing is what is recommended in the searches.

What rim tape are you using? Its entirely possible the tape didn't stick or sealant got under the tape and then allowed air to pass beyond and out the nipple holes.

Yeah, the "old" version of this park was a bunch of jumps that were clearly built as an afterthought. But these new ones will shoot you to the moon if you don't start on the far left green line.

I agree though. "proper" DJ and mountain biking are def 2 different things almost as much as MTB and BMX.

Not sure on tape brand. Had the local shop tape them. There isn’t sealant in them yet, was trying to get the bead to set before putting sealant in since I’m not sure it is going to work on the older rims.

You can cheat on non-tubeless ready rims by using gorilla tape, but I'll warn you, that stuff is terrible for cleanup and re-taping vs regular rim tape.

I've found some old rims can pull off tubeless OK, and there are some that just can't, so if yours fall in the later category, don't feel too bad.

If you're leaking from the spoke holes it's almost guaranteed to be a tape issue. If it's not the next likely culprit is your valve.

I'd take them back to the shop.

You might try putting a tube in and inflating them to max, and that might help seat the rim tape. Let it sit for a bit, and if you still get bubbles around the nipples, they likely need to be re-taped. I wouldn't trust sealant to stop that, it's what the tape is for.

Most tires have a ribbed line down by the rim that you can follow around to verify that the bead is seated. Just because it didn't "pop" doesn't mean it's not seated -- as long as you can see that line evenly all the way around on both sides, you should be good. Sometimes bouncing the wheel around and around will make it pop if there is a spot that isn't seated. I do that to spread sealant anyway.
