Tough to tell what the future holds for EMTBs and their popularity. Maybe it will explode and there will, literally, be too many riding too much and damaging trails faster than they can be repaired. I don't know. Nor do I really have an answer to what can be done. Enforcement will never be a viable option unless we all pay high trail-use fees.

I just know, and of course this is totally anecdotal, that it is very rare that my shops sell EMTBs to people that have never ridden trails. General E-bikes for sure we sell all day to newer riders but they mostly just cause havoc on public pathways and roads which is a whole other argument. I understand that this may not be the case in all locations as well. Especially those that may have rentals. I rode a ton of trails all across Canada last year, from small town trails, to large funded parks. EMTBs were still 100/1.

I just think that responsible use of them is not an issue. Irresponsible riders aren't limited to how much, or what kind, of power they're putting to their wheels. Educating everyone on trail usage, and getting them to volunteer or donate, is a better option than just banning them.

It would probably be high on my list of e-bikes I'd consider, but that side profile is not good looking imo. The delta link rear triangle with the massive downtube just doesn't mix. Their analog bikes have pretty small downtubes.

Oh I get it 100% I agree. I could give more priority to biking, would just be really hard right now. Hopefully soon though it’ll ease up.

there are certain things though in life that you cant always be mad at folks for choosing the easy way to do it. I think hobbies is one of those things lol.

I also don’t own an ebike and am not prioritizing one.

That reminds me, buddy got first dirt on his XT variant Sunday. Still working on dialing in setup but so far so good. Previous dually is a Trek EX from a few years ago so the Arktos is a little more modern geo which he noticed immediately. He came by my place after the ride to clean up the shifting a bit and bleed a spongy rear brake.

Prob hit local trails with him this evening so unless we roll SS I may give it rip to get a firsthand impression.

Funny enough, Draper and Unified PD around us have an E-bike for their officer. Yes, singular. The Draper one is pretty cool though if you aren't on the wrong side of the law, I've bumped into him a few times.

Honestly, I'll excuse E-bike enforcement if they'd just improve a little on stolen bike enforcement...

I ended up buying one of those silly indoor trainers. I absolutely hate it, I hate biking inside but, it's a way I can keep my fitness in decent shape and it makes my weekend outings a lot more fun. Now, with my local trails, fitness generally isn't the limiting factor, it's the time I can spend away from home. The trainer has set workouts that start at 15 minutes and go up from there but the ones I do haven't gone over 45 minutes. Roughly 30 minutes, every other day or so, and the gains I've seen on the trails have been substantial.

I'm not anti-ebike and I'm not a MTB hardo, just sharing what's been working for me to keep up with and make my hobby more enjoyable.

I have heavily considered an indoor bike just for this. It’s much easier to squeeze in a 30min ride at home than a 30min drive to a trail, however long ride, and a 30min ride home.

If you wanna lower the bar even more...

I was about 225lbs and really out of shape 9 months ago. Making time to ride was tough since we had just had our second kid and moved to a new house and it made riding miserable a lot of the time (though I still loved it). I started tracking my calories and strictly sticking to a slight caloric deficit, as well as doing ~30 minutes of bodyweight interval training (push-ups, sit-ups, bodyweight squats/lunges, etc.) 3-5 days/week. I weigh about 190 now and I've never felt better on the bike.

I have a spacebrace shoulder brace on the way, hoping I can delay surgery. Also need to try building up/strengthening the delts.

Yep, best way to shave weight on the bike is generally to start with the rider! I know it'd be a HELL of a lot easier and cheaper for me to lose 10 lbs than to try to shave 10 lbs off my mountain bike...
Good on you for dropping 30 lbs, that's awesome!

I also hate riding inside but during the winter, most of my riding is inside...I upgraded to a wahoo last winter and it is a bit better between that and zwift. I also ran more last winter which at least makes getting outside easier for me haha
Man I've been hovering around 225 for like a year or two. I get about 6-8 hours of exercise a week between biking, running, and the gym...I just can't get the "diet" down
