haha. took me a second to see the white text hiding.

the way i remember it is...if i'm looking at the bike from the drive side (ie, it's in photogenic mode), if i draw a line into the pedals, then i just turn right when i hit the crank. so the drive side is, turn to the front as...and the non drive sie, turn to the front as well...but it's easier to remember.

Got out to an area yesterday that I don’t ride much. Got to the turnaround point and had to stop and take in this view. This is home to me, and always will be. Just something about this view that puts me at peace.

Right hand thumb rule for right hand threads. Twist your right hand around the axle in the direction of bolt rotation and your thumb will point to the direction the pedal will go. So if you are installing a pedal, point your thumb towards the pedal insertion point and the direction your fingers curl is the direction you need to twist. Works from either the front or backside. Use your left hand for left hand threads.

This works for all threaded applications and can be handy when you are upside down twisted around in an engine bay or something and trying to figure out which way to tighten or loosen.

Into the downtube to loosen, towards the ground to tighten.

thats how we learned about electric fields in physics.

and do you guys not look at the letters on your pedals when you install them? clips are even easier (except egg beaters)

To loosen always turn the wrench to the rear of the bike, tightening is opposite of course

hahahah. yeah. it's hard to explain. much easier to just show people.

wait a second. why hasn't anyone ever told me about this right hand rule? Used it allt he time in physics. not to be confused with the various different right hand rules and left hand rules that exist in physics.

wait..... is it really that simple? assuming you're talking about the going in through back of the crank arm?

We had a little rain so I thought I'd try to get out for some fun. Turns out Sandy lives up to it's name and it was still dry AF. Guess you can't really complain for late summer.. The legs were already feeling smoked from previous ride so decided to stick to the more flowy stuff. I Gopro all the time and never do anything with it so here's some clips.

It's just a shortcut for a vector cross product (that you used in physics). Torque vector is a cross of distance and force. Just remember the right hand rule for all (right hand) fasteners and you don't need to try and remember anything bike specific about front/rear of bike etc.

That depends on how your wrench is oriented …

The right hand / left hand rule is great except it doesn't help you remember which bolts are right hand or left hand threaded. The tricks everyone is talking about is how to remember which threads the pedals have so you don't end up with stripped cranks.

Uh....the right side is right hand and the left side is left hand. Pretty easy to remember ;) Pedals are marked L or R, otherwise just look at the threads.

It's that simple. doesn't matter which side of the crank arm you are on, same direction - back of the bike to take it off, front of the bike to tighten.

First ride in over a month this morning. I was on vacation earlier in July and was ready to dive back into training. Ended up getting covid as soon as I was back and it really did a number on me.

Rode just 35km but damn it was nice to be out there. Perfect day too.

Still have a bit of trouble breathing but my heart rate is now at least manageable. My resting heart rate had been super elevated for the first three weeks. Seems to be settling down now.

Far from 100% unfortunately. Really killed my season. I'll probably mess around during cross season a bit but I've mostly shifted my attention to 2023.
