Thanks to the guys that commented on my previous post about possibly getting the wife a 2018 Ghost 2 3.7 Lanao.

We got it and didn’t haggle on the $500 as the bike is pristine, been used a few times and that’s it. I’m kinda jealous, need to find me a bike now!

For those hard core hard tail riders that went over to FS did you regret it and go back?

How was it? Bit of a storm came in while we were doing the Navajo "DH" loop.

Congrats on the new bike! For me, no regrets since we have nothing but chunky techy trails where I ride. We did stop in Des Moines, IA on our roadtrip for a quick rip and those trails need nothing more than a modern hardtail.

Long story short, depends entirely on what you ride and how you ride it.

Might not be any help but I have both and don't regret having them, if possible keep both, its pretty cool switching back and forth for a different ride. What I would recommend is going to a short travel FS...120 F&R or 120F & 100R. Coming off a HT, too much travel might sour you on FS and that would suck. Getting the right bike is key.

Some bikes that come to mind...Specialized Epic EVO, Transition Spur, Pivot 429 SL. Quite a few others in the "down country" class.

So I wouldn’t be worried about bending the rod, it’s the part the removal tools are designed to protect, where the adjustment knob attaches to the adjuster. The tool is hollow and made kinda like a deep well socket so there’s no interference with the attachment point which is really soft aluminum and easy to bend. Circled below.

Another vote for having one of each if possible, and to go for a short to mid travel FS assuming your terrain doesn’t require more squish.

Remember it well. Considered back then cutting edge but quickly went by the wayside. People entering the sport now would be blown away at the number of and the ingenuity taking place back then of experimental suspension designs. So many different entry’s and so many failures. Congrats on a purchasing a premium piece of MTB history. It should be in a MTB museum.

Here’s one for you young guns to ponder. Check out the fork suspension implemented for the rear suspension.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at your recommendations.

A few problems I have are, a very limited budget <$700, never ridden a decent FS, feel FS bikes are sloppy and heavy, and I used to solely ride a 22lb no suspension mtb which used to do everything I asked of it.

I think I’m a 43 year old that is quickly turning into a grumpy old man that doesn’t like change.

The Ghost FS I just bought the wife needs to have the suspension pumped up. Once I get the pump I will have another ride on it and see how I feel. I do like the fact that you can lock off the front and rear, also that you can change the rebound and such.

I didn’t but it but wish I had space for multiple bikes and the time to be able to fix it up, it needs work.

Currently spending a month in Bend and kinda living full time in a travel trailer so I’m only allow3d one bike…

That is so cool! I remember that, as I kinda reveal my age...

If I remember correctly in 92/93 I had Paramount 70 Series (Schwinn"s premium steel hard tail, yep they sure did, look it up) it had a MANITOU fork on it and I thought I was such a bad ass with 1.5" of elastomer goodness, lol. Back then it was a battle between MANITOU or ROCKSHOX for front end dominance. RS had 1.5" of primitive hydraulic dampening...:)

Titanium- because the stock Evil aluminum delta bolts are weak (I’ve broken a couple).

I still have a Manitou hardtail frame hanging from the rafters in the garage awaiting my motivation to do a period build.

I think he meant bending the part that it actually threads onto.
Do-able, but I think you'd really have to put some weigh ton it to bend that if it's still in the lowers. Like accidentally fall on top of it or something like that.

We got hazard down and beat the storm. It was a great day to be on WE. Word is they'll start shuttling burro this week, but Kyle Mears was apparently checking with the forest service crew working on the road today.

Everything is riding great down here with the recent rains.

Lucky you! They took us to the bottom of Kokopelli yesterday where we climbed up and did UPS down. It was slick as hell and muddy in the beginning but dried out as we made our way down. I was hoping for Hazard County.
