This makes sense. I think trail building has come a long way. Lots of older trails originally supported mainly foot and horse traffic, and they weren't always laid down with erosion or mountain biking in mind. I could see it in older trails back in the STL area. The horses could turn a blue into a black after a good rain, and it would take a couple of seasons to heal. Sometimes re-routes help, but sometimes there is only one route possible. The newer trails laid out by the local MTB club are better designed with bikes in mind, but they'll get rougher over time as well. And the horse people find them and don't mind riding in the mud.

 

Personally, take the climb out of it….and black mountain was easier to get down than Bennett.

 

ive only been riding for about 6ish years, so my experience is limited.

trails are definitely getting easier due to being smoothed out. bikes have come a long way too, but at least here in colorado (im more familiar with colorado springs), they are making the trails easier. all the hard trails were made easier or closed down. "new", official trails, where old pirate trails were are easier than the pirate trails (admittedly some of these pirate trails were pretty scary). good techy pirate trails have been closed. city is threatening to close all trails if pirate trails stick around. there are still a handful of pretty difficult things around, some are official too.

but im stoked about our trail group around here. they know what riders want and work with some pretty big name companies for trail advocation. talking to them, they have some pretty rad ideas they are pushing, just gotta get it approved by the city council i guess

I have a bikehand repair stand. it's, meh. but it gets the job done.

Meh is ok for my needs. Just maintenance on my hardtails & Family bikes. No DH or E-bikes.

 

yeah, i think it's sub 100 for the bikehand ones. over time they get a bit sticky, i keep it wd-40'd and clean. the clamp is a bit finnicky but it works if you know how to work around it.

I inherited an Amazon special, I think it's a Bikehand. For my uses, it works just fine. Not sure if it'd hold up to daily use if you're a bike mechanic, but for basic maintenance, it serves it's purpose well enough!

 

About 2200 miles on mine in less than two years and no issues with the frame so far. I'm from the Northeast Boston area so lots of slow speed techy trails and this thing is right at home with the pedaling performance. It's covered my ass more times than I can count. If you have very flat and not techy terrain where you ride then a Trail 429 is a better bike for that but lots of overlap between the two.
