Most of this has a shelf life of 2 years before clumping. Say it does it a bit quicker since it's being used and exposed to elements.
Change it once a year and you should be golden IMO.

Most people will change tires 1 or 2 times a year so I see no issues.

When I lived in Oregon, I did as you describe. Now living in Utah, and it's very dry, I tend to refill at the start of the season (spring) and then before desert season really gets going in the fall.

To me it looks like water got in there which would likely affect the sealing performance. But yeah depending how often you ride 1-2oz every 3-4 months helps.

The bike is a better deal than the 2022 model I have. So who knows.
Hopefully 2024 will be a bit cheaper even. Wishful Thinking.

Crazy when locally manufactured bikes are beating Asian outsourced manufacturing.

Yup. Between forums, strava, instagram, youtube, and then everyone going outside during covid it's been death by a thousand cuts for anything that's nice or cool.

Maybe once Elon is finished destroying Twitter he can move on and do the same with Instagram and Strava.

@mrtonyd to start, I use 4oz for my 29s and then top off is 2oz every three months. It seems to work for the areas I ride that are full of cactus and goat heads!

The only real issue I’m having with my sealant is the small little clumps out of the bottle. Makes it a PITA to get it through the 2oz squeeze bottle i use for the stem. I haven’t tried the pour in the tire and then air up method….seems to be asking for a mess.

But thanks for the responses everyone. You all have been helpful with my questions the past few months.

Go to your local equine or Ag supply store and get a large syringe for going through the stem. Easier than using the bottles.

Pouring in the tire is fine the first time, not really that messy if you're careful, but it's a bit of a pain to do it to refill as you may have trouble re-seating the bead. On the other hand it's a good time to see what's going on with the sealant that's already in there.

How often you pump your tires and how much they leak can have a big effect on how long your sealant lasts as well.

I've never injected sealant though the valve stem. Already have enough trouble with them gumming up over time. It's ez enuf to pop a small section of bead off to pour some in even with a cush core installed. I burn tires up before needing to add sealant typically. A stans quart will usually will get me though a summer across two bikes usually. The race stans forms some big ol buggers compared to the regular stuff. Not a flatter so can't really comment if it's better or not otherwise...

Speaking of tires I still haven't gotten my damn Conti front from Jenson.. When I ordered 10/12 they said 10/28 or something expected ship date.... :annoyed:

I did get my Hero11mini today though, gonna do some testing with that this weekend!

    We're......helpful?!

i actualy prefer the "pop the bead" method. But that depends on if you have a way to reliably re-seat the bead. I use an airshot to help with that. I also do the syringe when i feel like i need to. But generally speaking, I tend to burn through a tire before the sealant needs refreshing but I acknowledge I ride a ton.

    Ha! @ginseng :)

Well that leads to other discussion I suppose - this rear tire, it has over 1100 miles on it over the last 14 months. I think there are 6 plugs in it? The last two trying to fix the sidewall pinch that occurred last week. This is really my first time truly mountain biking, so perhaps I left it on too long? the plugs worked, no lugs had fallen off but were worn. I don’t know… I guess i also don’t know much about variations in tires so just run with the stock tires that come on the Stumpjumper - SPEC Butcher for the front and Purgatory for the back.

And for the tire work, I’m using my pancake air compressor to seal the bead. I will go find a syringe at the depot..

My BIL swears by his new Smith's with the photo chromatic lenses, not sure which model he has, but he let me use them tjis summer and they were great.
It's obviously not an instant transition but from under tree cover to full sun its fast enough to not be blinded.
