Awesome I didn’t know they made an asphalt pump track. Powder Ridge is a ton of fun, I was surprised with what they were able to do with that place.

how many miles you do is all up to you. i found i can do about 50-70 miles of single track depending on elevation gain. thats like 12 hours of straight riding and climbing.

50-70 miles on pavement is a lot faster.

are you touring/riding to enjoy the sites and have other things you want to do on the way? i like covering distance when i go out and try to squeeze as much mileage as i can. i also set myself up to try and complete these distances by a certain day and dont give myself enough time to comfortably enjoy the ride.

stealth camping is hit or miss and location dependent. it was difficult and kind of scary to stealth camp along 101 from SF to LA. I had multiple camp spots lined up at different distances and still had to get a hotel one night. camping along the colorado trail is a given and kind of expected, so not really stealth camping. if you're comfortable with it, go for it.

i met people do 30-40 miles in a day in california.

really look at the terrain you're travelling across. is a tent necessary or can you hammock or sleep on a pad on the ground? I absolutely needed a tent in california. no tent or hammock in colorado. a lot of stealth campers take darker colored tents so theyre not as easily seen, but you can still be woken up by random people.

if you do stealth camp, i'd recommend getting up before sunrise and riding a few miles before stopping for breakfast. ive read stories of people camping in fields and the farmers show up. usually nothing bad happens, but not really a good situation.

just start adding miles when you go out and start training. touring is just riding a lot. you dont need to go fast or sprint if you plan for extra time. weight on your handlebars or front panniers really does change how your bike handles. weight on the rear is less impactful.

you're really the only one that can determine what is feasible or not though.

good luck. sounds like it will be a fun ride regardless of what you decide to do

Get in some rides with your setup you will be taking, one to understand the weight and what that does to the bike, but also to understand if you have the correct gear and set up with your bags. Perhaps an overnight trip somewhere and back to test out the equipment and setup, food and such. If you are hoteling it, changes your bike setup and could be an easier ride. So what experience are you wanting out of the trip?

And some good thoughts above as well on distance per day. Is it a killer pace you want or a party pace so you can stop and take photos, enjoy the sites and such. Party Pace is fun, enjoy food, the experience, sleep a bit rather than sun to dark riding.

Awesome, that should be just fine then! Shoulda known you'd do your homework before that purchase ;)
When it's time I'll for sure check them out.
Yeah, we got ya homie. My new house is a work-in-progress but I think we can scrape together some space for ya. Like Connor said, if for some reason it doesn't work out I'm sure all the SLC buds will find a good spot for you. Here's the SLC Thread, let us know when you're coming and we'll get a good group together. I'll try and take off a day, so we can take a nice long ride.
When we first rode together in CO I took you on some of the tamer (but still awesome) stuff, didn't know your shred-credit ;) This time, if you're into it, we'll take some of the longer and steeper stuff that I don't think you regularly find in your neck of the woods.
Just a heads-up, not a lot has thawed by the spring. It's usually early-mid June when the fun stuff starts to open, late June for the Wasatch Crest. There's still plenty to ride, but the epic views and longer rides are up top.
    You still have my number?

My significant other decided that she'd rather ride her Enduro bike (Evil Insurgent) than her XC bike because it's more fun. Fortunately, we ride the same size bike so now I have a used "gravel" bike. The weight is a lot less than the other rigs I ride (typically around 30-33 lbs).

After a few mods (longer dropper, different saddle and grips), suspension tuning and a wash, she's ready to go. Yeti SB100. No, I'm not a dentist.

I plan on doing some of both… definitely hitting up a brewery or two. I go back and forth between take in some sites and Knocking it out. I will bring a tent in case of rain…small one I use for hiking primitive camping in the adks….

I am going to do a 2 or 3 day trip prior just to get the hang of it and to see how far I think I can ride… 50 m @ 10 mph seems doable… with some training prior to… I have done centuries before but not with gear and much of this is crushed limestone but with few real hills.

I did change my ticket out to give myself 3 extra days… for screwing off bad weather etc…

Saw this lady at Windrock. Pro riders are just different.

Also saw the Canadian Tristan Lemire there on that new Supreme.

They’re very humble, we were doing a session at a spot at windrock in the trail and in the way and they’re the ones that say sorry guys as they go by, we say our sorrys also. These guys are nicer than the locals going for Strava times.

There’s a lot of truth in that last line! God forbid you slow up some dude in his full race kit on his S Works cruising on the most groomed, timid trails in the area…
