I think that had more to do with owning a Dodge than a tailgate pad.

The pad is strapped to the tailgate, and the bikes are strapped to the pad with the built in straps. It is securely held in place.

When I used a tailgate pad I just tossed it on and drove. If I was going on the highway or had multiple bikes I would use a bungee cord hooked around the frame to the corner tie down in the bed

I just use a Rocky Mount's rack attached to the Tacoma bed track system to secure my bikes. No laying it over the tailgate.

Why not just send it to PUSH? By the way I live just 2 miles from them. Daren the owner is very knowledgeable and personable.

Got new spacers in so cleaned this up, instead of 8 tiny ones I’ve got 3 larger ones.

thoughts on NOT cutting the steerer tube down?

Anyone ever use PVC to build a rack, like an old style one? I have mostly 20" so thinking throwing them over the tailgate isn't as palatable, plus some of mine are ones I've sunk a lot of time and money in so I prefer not to gouge them up if I can minimize the risk

If that’s where you’ve decided you like them then I’d personally leave it but that’s just cause I’m lazy and wouldnt want to have to cut it and redo the star but haha.
I used a pvc holder with straps holding the bike in for a while. This is a while back but this is how I did it. Right around when I first started mountain biking. You could probably adjust it for smaller wheels.

I saw one somewhere that was a long piece fitting 3 bikes tops that dropped in behind the cab and just tied to the bed tiedowns. Can't find the damn thing but it would be perfect for what I want

It’s hard to see but it’s there in my picture. I painted it black. You can see it a little better in this picture.

My thought exactly. Why adjust if I don’t have to? Plus who knows maybe I’d need it longer one day...

Plus, selling the fork uncut later on gives you way more people it will fit.

I’ve got the old RF pad. It works out good. Just don’t torque down the strap too hard. I snapped one of the plastic buckles. The new ones I think a really adjustable to the thickness of 3rd gen tailgates.
