I think if I were to build a new fun bike, I’d go for the Forbidden Druid with a 150 36 on it. Check it out, it’s a badass bike.

I rented a Rascal for a week in Moab end of Sept. Did all the "usual suspect" trails and the bike worked really, really well. The CBF rear end is liked nothing I've ever ridden before. It was a very balanced bike and had no problems with it at all, climbed fantastic, I was very impressed with the bike and did not regret my decision on renting it for 7 days. There was a section or two on Captain Ahab where more than 130mm would have been nice but for 95% of the rides we did it was more than enough.

Im trying real hard to demo one in Pgh area. I'm sure it would be just fine but would like to ride it on familiar trails before chucking that much coin on a new bike.

Nice! The thought has crossed my mind. Manager of the LBS and I were actually talking about the Druid yesterday. I’d like to look into it more as I don’t know enough about the suspension yet to jump in. I still need something pretty pedal friendly. Unfortunately most of my riding does not involve the gravity portion of life.

Nice setup. Can I ask what size frame your bike is? I'm trying to gauge what fits in a short bed.

Read some reviews. It's pretty much spot on for what you'd like, and it's 148.
Shit, I'm about to list the Django to see if I can swing one.

Doesn’t appear to be much availability until early next year it seems. Not surprising I suppose. Lemme know if you find a supply, or if you get one. Curious to hear your thoughts on it.

I’m also very interested particularly in the Rascal as a 1 bike quiver. Seems to kind of slot in between classes nicely. I’ve heard nothing but good things about that rear suspension.

@abacall Found a shop in Canada selling a Druid demo bike that they’re willing to sell as a frame only. Not my first pick on color, but it would still come with a full warranty through Forbidden.

Also got a line on a new Rascal frame from another shop.

I’d only need to get the necessary headset for either bike and I’d be rolling...

    Hmmm...first world problems

Tough choices and I don't think you'd go wrong with either but I vote Rascal.

when I bought mine in February the MSRP from Specialized was like $2750. I got it out the door, with tubeless setup, couple of shirts/hat, and the 2 years of free service from them for $2400.

edit: $2720 is the msrp https://www.specialized.com/us/en/stumpjumper-29/p/173581?color=271540-173581&searchText=93320-7102

Covid times aside, I've never paid sticker for a bike. Maintain a relationship with your LBS and it'll pay dividends. Timing also counts, later in the season, you're more likely to get a haircut on a bike they're trying to move than at the start of the season when everyone's buying and new models are out.

I second that. The Druid is sweet, but the extra drivetrain bits puts me off a bit.

I’m sure if you show up with cash in hand they may work with you. Are you set on the Mojo 3? I’ve ridden one and I was not a fan. It’s got some really outdated geometry by today’s standards. It feels like you are sitting on top of the bike not inside of it.
