Niiiice! I'm not about to put it out to pasture but I'm happy having an older bike that I can moderately thrash and not worry about being out 3k or more if it poops the bed. Plus I'm more comfortable learning servicing & maintenance techniques on an older bike for the same reasons--ya don't learn to fly on a fighter jet!

They are still good bike. I was riding in some more techy terrain at the time and wanted more travel so that’s the only reason I sold it. Those bikes can definitely take a good beating.

I'm 29 and feel it where I smacked the ground yesterday.

Riding on an off camber straight, got too close to side and leaf's and well washed out. Shoulder took the lick.

What are you riding now? My father-in-law & wife are both on 29ers but I'm leaning towards a 27.5 since I love hopping of any roller, rock or drop. We have some techy stuff up here but very very little that is prolonged or crazy challenging.

Primarily a trek Stache 29+. Super fun bike. I sold the fuel and got a 2014 remedy back in 2015. It has 140mm of travel and 27.5 wheels. It’s a fun bike too but doesn’t compare to the stache for the majority of riding I do

Did he hit the front brakes, or just weight transfer?

Front brakes. I don’t have original video, but I did go back and look at it and he grabs brakes right before edge of the drop.

He could’ve drug back brakes, but I saw front brakes grabbed.

29 works better for the speeeeed. techy twitchy stuff you'll probably like the 27.5 more. I did 10+ years on a BMX bike and when I ride I still ride that way, the 27.5 can handle terrain and techy stuff and speed so, I'll probably end up on a 27.5 hard tail once facebook prices make sense again.

We might spend a little more time in Alabama over the holidays due to my kid's school playing musical chairs with COVID. I'll keep you in the loop.

Ahh. I wonder if my first over the bar moment will be caused by the F. brakes, or seat giving me the "Giddy up" ass slap because I didn't spring for a dropper post.

I love me some speed but the trails we ride most often aren't dh & don't have long enough sections to really open 'er up. Plus I kinda like the climbs.

He does not have a dropper, that's just a Trek Xcaliber 7. It definitely didn't help the situation.

Damn, are you confirming my suspicions of 27.5 vs 29"? This is my first MTB, coming from a 20"fit BMX bike. The size & geo are so foreign to me, I can't help but wonder if 27 would've been an easier transition. Trying to manual or Bunny hop on my RH is hilariously pathetic.

God I miss my 30s. I used to heal from injuries...
45 ain’t so kind as 35. Remember what you felt like 10 years ago?
Whatevs, can’t let age dictate the fun you have.

    You're weird.

 it's a different type of ride. I went from BMX straight to road bikes, that was a whole new world to me. There's no right or wrong answer, it depends what you want to ride. More bombing hills and bulldozing over things, 29. More techy, twitchy slow stuff and having fun while in the air, 27.5 (that's my take on it).
