I have too much into the Jackal build honestly. I got carried away from doing pro bike checks on slopestyle builds while waiting for the Chameleon, and that carried over into the Jackal build.

You could honestly have a pretty sweet Jackal DJ for $1500-ish, and that is probably more than enough for most and what I should have done. The only upside to what I did is that if I get the desire (or loose cash) for a slopestyle frame like a Trek Ticket S, everything will move over and I still have a top spec bike.

The Jackal seat post was cut to drop down as far as it does, but it is actually almost the whole length of the seat tube. But in my opinion, for what you just described, something like the SC Chameleon would be a much better bike. For the XC stuff at Rays, I would have honestly preferred my lizard bike with the dropper post, it just would have been a compromise in other places of the park.

@machspeed I forgot you were in Michigan. There was a stolen bike alert posted on a Utah MTB page for a SC Chameleon that was a DEAD ON clone of yours and I was afraid it was yours!

Not me, but a bummer for sure for the owner. Thieves, especially bike thieves suck. With the purple downtube graphics, many Chameleons end up looking pretty much the same to me.

I truly believe that most bike thefts are by people who are not “bike” people. Every time I see an ad for a stolen bike, especially a custom, I actually hope the thief is dumb enough to post it up for sale online. If it was mine or a friends bike, we would be reclaiming the stolen property our way

Rays Milwaukee looked like more of a jump park from photos I saw if I remember correctly. That is more up my alley. Rays CLE is fun but I get tired of it after a day.

You're right about the rentals... They are nice bikes but heavy as hell and get tiresome to ride after a while.

I feel you there! I hate bike theft. I once had the Novara Method 2 stolen from me. It was the first freeride bike REI made. One of the engineers on the project designed the rear triangle worked with me in the bike shop. I had him sing my bike with a silver sharpie, I also had filmed the comercial for the bike. So it was very special to me. I was also 18 when I bought the bike. So it was very expensive for my punk ass.. Then it was stolen while I was in college so i had no money to replace it. Anyways sorry for the rant that one always hits a sore note for me. This is one of two pics I can find of it online in the original black that I had. I'm going to see if I can find a good pic of mine.

True, Chameleons, amazing as they are, are pretty limited on the colorway front.

Yeah, we have had a few geniuses post to KSL.com for a bike for sale in SLC that was stolen FROM SLC. The bike community is SLC is pretty active, so they got busted pretty quick.

Ok, since it appears to be ok to have a Grom, I had one pre-Tacoma. Bought a new black Grom and modded the crap out of it, but I did not care to ride it and sold it with around 1k miles. I never posted it up since it was sold about a month before I got the truck.
I posted a whole build thread on one of the Grom forums, but honestly forgot which one already.

The Grom was a bit much, way over the top for my first motorcycle build. I installed Ohlins suspension front and rear, custom Corbin seat, FMF exhaust, Yoshi cam, some tuner deal, tons of little add ons and custom touches. I got so stupid that it even had a Thai Coca Cola bottle cap for the oil fill plug (the Grom is from Thailand)

I had way more fun building it than riding it, so it got sold.

I called Ohlins USA a while back to hypothetically price out a full coilover / rear setup for my tacoma. They actually had a combo they "thought" might work, but when it was all said and done it was...many dollars. I forget how much, but it was so high I just kinda snorted/laughed. Even they were like, "yeah..."

That husky is pretty sweet! :bikewhoops: Not sure your definition of "real", but (sadly) my bike still cost more than your bike...
