abacall covered it pretty well. I actually do have the contacts and chesters. A couple things, after a couple seasons my chester pins are noticeably less sharp then when new, so a pin change could help. I have Impacts and Freerider Contacts and have been pretty happy with the Contacts. No grip issues with the contact/chester combo, though I'm not a hack. ;):D That said, my last ride was quite a bit cooler (40s) and I did slip a pedal a couple times on technical climbs. Hadn't done that in quite some time. Probably a combo of the pins being less sharp, soles less grippy in cooler weather, and bad technique after being off the bike a while previous to that ride.

Sounds like you have a good plan of attack.

No I wore the impact pros at Monte Sano.

I bought these last couple of 5/10 because they were cheap. I have 4 pair now.

It was something like 40% off online, combined with addidas coupon for bonus 30% off, plus website cash back of 10% and CC 2% cash back. Lol

you won’t be wearing these massive things around for style points that’s for sure.

I was sort of wondering about technique, is it possibly my riding style that's making me slip more? It definitely wasn't that cool out around here. we rode in the 60s.

Just watched the video clip of it you posted up.Too bad the tree was blocking the camera view of final impact. It’s a good video clip to teach your future children and grandchildren of what not to do. ;)

Glad you came out of it unscathed.

ultra-disappointed that the tree blocked the impact. I know there were a handful of reasons I crashed, but I'm blaming it mostly on the leaves that I landed on, slick as ice

the video where he leaned forward did open up possibility of foot coming off I guess.

Leaf Litter can be one of the scariest trail terrain types there is. You're right. Get on the brakes too hard and there's just no stopping. Thats why I am always impressed with the 50/01 edits. Nothing but leaves and mud on their little jib lines.

it made that trail terrifying the whole way down, not even just on that drop. even if I had not crashed, there was basically no practicing jumps or anything Saturday. seemed like nobody was out riding to help clear the leaves.

@paleh0rse missed a great ride about my realm this weekend. Corner Canyon was total hero dirt. Rush was as great as I ever remember it being.

@Squeaky Penguin really nailed the timing on buying a new bike!

Technique is huge for pedal grip on flats. Were your problems during downhills or while climbing? I have the most problem while climbing technical stuff since I'm actively trying to be "light" to get up over obstacles. I'll sometimes kick forward off a pedal. This was really prominent switching back to flats after being clipless for years. Now it might only happen a handful of times a season. This can also happen while learning to jump on flats.

For descending, make sure to keep your heels down and you'll never slip a pedal with your current setup IMO.

more so while climbing yes, but I also had it a couple of times where it was flat and I was lazy and just rolled over a root or something instead of putting effort in to hop and my foot would hop off. but the climbing was more noticeable, when I would noob-ishly shift really hard and the bike would shift/jerk I slipped off the pedals.

I just went back and watched it again multiple times. I think as you came off you landed to far forward of the bike which in turn made you land hard which forced your left foot to come off the pedal, the slippery landing was definitely a contributing factor. All this resulted in a yard sale. As you were coming off a slight pull back on the bars would have moved your weight back to where your rear wheel would have landed first instead of a flat two wheeled hard landing.
I used to jump motorcycles a lot. :)

I'm more impressed by the "unbuilding" of his poor jorts. I'd literally kill someone to have quads like his. #NoHomo

yep I agree to all of that. I came in confident that it took very little effort because the last time I did the drop it was easy. didn't think about my position enough and then the slippery landing just screwed me all up. hello mr tree.

Once your foot came off it was pretty much unsaveable with those slippery conditions. That’s why I cringe when I see these kind of maneuvers being attempted with trees lining the transition.

toes down in the air. I wouldn’t think it’s shoes or pedals in this situation. Can’t speak on climbing though.

Haha he does have some solid quads though. I’ve noticed the vascularity going up in my quads when I’m on the bike haha

I got tilted forward as the bike dropped. Like I said I was too confident in the fact it’s just rollable and didn’t focus on my position enough. It was so easy the first time I did it I was just over confident. Position started off great but as the bike dropped I allowed myself to fall forward. Would’ve rolled out of it if I didn’t land on ice leaves, guaranteed.

Brown ice season definitely adds a new element to the equestion. We’re still lucky to only have to alter our riding slightly rather than hanging the bike up altogether.
