GG has a very interesting bike sizing scheme that I wouldn't really compare to any other bike brand. For one thing, you can adjust the reach of the bike with a flippable headset that changes reach by 1cm. I believe there are some other adjustable components as well. I think it's great because even if the average male is 5'9" leg length, arm length, torso length all probably vary quite a bit.

My buddy just bought one last year, sight unseen. He was a bit concerned about the size they recommended, but couldn't be happier now that he has the bike.

Super interesting aviation tidbit related to this exact thing: If you average every measurement of everyone, you get a median that resembles no one

    https://www.thestar.com/news/insigh...ir-force-discovered-the-flaw-of-averages.html

"Out of 4,063 pilots, not a single airman fit within the average range on all 10 dimensions. One pilot might have a longer-than-average arm length, but a shorter-than-average leg length. Another pilot might have a big chest but small hips. Even more astonishing, Daniels discovered that if you picked out just three of the ten dimensions of size — say, neck circumference, thigh circumference and wrist circumference — less than 3.5 per cent of pilots would be average sized on all three dimensions. Daniels’s findings were clear and incontrovertible. There was no such thing as an average pilot. If you’ve designed a cockpit to fit the average pilot, you’ve actually designed it to fit no one."

Dang man that's like a bike version of a mallcrawler. No ankle rub on the cranks and not a ding in the chainstay

Yes it looks like you can flip reach with a headset adjustment for a 10mm change. So the smallest size has an option of 458 or 568 reach. So the smallest reach on that frame is a 458 and they list it for down to 5'4". Just seems like a huge reach at that size. They do have really steep STA so the ETT (or seated reach) is actually pretty short.

Sure but you still have to design it to some standard. Adjustability obviously helps this a ton. For bikes features like short seat tubes so that someone with short legs isn't limited by that helps a lot. Adjustable reach could be a game changer. But we still have an industry that provides sizing based on height, yet seems to constantly put the average height on the fringes of their frame sizes. Just seems odd.

Yeah, obv you have to just sorta give a range and aim to fit the majority decently well, it was just an interesting tangent on the variability of people.

I’m guessing you missed the large rubber chainstay protector and the new-ish cranks I put on over the winter. Jeez bro, can I wait for it to thaw first before I take it down the mountain or at least lose a couple feet of snow? Lol

That’s why bike development still has a ways to go in terms of fit. It’s starting to get there though, and bikes like the new stumpy, and Rocky Mountains are starting to give riders a ton of adjustability.
I would love to see something like the ride9 system of the RM but with independently adjustable reach, rear center, BB height, HA, SA, progression, anti-squat and anti-rise. That’s all within the possibility of engineered design. I know what numbers would be ideal for me, but haven’t seen them in any bike yet.
Truth is though, not sure how many people would even know what to do with all that.

Curious, for your everyday (or most days) bike, what are your geo ideal numbers?
Personally at 5’8”, 150lbs enduro bike:
    HA: 65-64
    SA: 76-78
    Reach: 455-465
    Top tube: 600-610
    CS: 435-440
    WB: 1210-1225
    BB: 335-345

I also like bikes with high progression so I can run a coil, and high anti-squat to keep pedal feedback in check and give a solid platform.

I would say that's pretty close for me too at 5'10" but I haven't ridden any larger bikes that manufacturers seem to be pushing more and more at my size. I would be curious to ride something with a 480 reach and 630ish ETT and a bit longer WB. My Scout is the longest WB I've ridden at 1189.

The 2021 Slash 8 only upgrade is the hub has 100+ points of engagement. Sounds epic. Also so the frame is brand new, but the components are not. Like I said about 100 miles on them. However during that 100 miles you’ll see the fork stanchion damage.

For the price paid we’re gonna use some filler and clean it up, it’s not deep at all.

Oh... Richie Rude put a double crown on an SB165 and is at Windrock.

pretty cool to know which enduro frames can handle that DC fork abuse

Nate Hills put out a video of a 165 DH build last year. He said Yeti won't void the warranty with a dual crown. https://youtu.be/nG6Vw9mI5LU

He's came across my instagram before, I've been watching the windrock stories on insta as well as looking at their tags.

I rode last night as well, I can say the lights I have are good, but after riding with these other guys I have a lot to be desired when riding the harder or more technical stuff.
I'll probably go outbound lighting this next time we change clocks back again.
