Looking for trip recommendations. We have a 9 mo old, and it's been FOREVER since my wife has mountain biked. We're going to have grandparents along to babysit while we sneak out for some rides. We're in the Seattle area and looking for something within a reasonable day's drive which I know limits us. May/June timeframe. We'll probably hole up in an AirBNB so not to concerned about surrounding amenities.

Bend and Bellingham were the two obvious options I came up with. Need to check in to Bend area trail/snow conditions for that time. What else am I missing? Boise or something in ID with good foothills rides?

I have a new switchblade as well and want to change out the minions it came with. I ride in the PNW and love the traction, but I'm more cross country than downhill and want something that rolls a bit better but can also handle some mud and wet.

Was looking at the rekons as well...love any advice.

@tomgru Rekons on a Switchblade seems like an odd choice and they would be horrid in mud and wet. In fact a Switchblade seems like an odd choice if you're more of a XC style rider. You need tires that can keep up with the capabilities of the bike. IMO, keep the Minion on front and do a Dissector on back for faster rolling.

LOL... funny about bike choice and you're not wrong :)

I came from a Pivot 429c, but wanted more travel... I do ride some blacks here... and wanted more ability when needed. My son also worked in a Pivot dealer, so I got a deal :).

I do have a true x-country rocket (S-works) when i really need to go fast and climb. The Pivot gives me the "one bike for everything" option that fits most of the trails around here. But you can't do anything it seems without at least a starting climb of over 1000 feet, and i'm never really going to do much double black, so a slightly faster tire would be nice.

Had Nobby Nics on my 429c and was pretty happy with them.

It's efficient enough that it's a good choice for an all around I suppose, especially if you have an XC bike. I still think you'd be reducing its capabilities significantly going to recons. The NN in back wouldn't be a terrible choice....probably pretty similar to dissector. Still, my recommendation for our area would be to keep that DHF up front and just go faster rolling out back. You aren't going to gain much steep climbing speed with a different front tire, but you'll lose tons of cornering stability.

Like I mentioned, I wanted the Agarro's front and rear but they weren't in stock so I got convinced into the Martello rear and Mazza front. Certainly more fitting for the Switchblade but it doesn't hurt to experiment with things. I'm not too familiar with Rekons or Schwalbe but I can vouch for the Agarro. I'd say they sit right between the Maxxis Aggressor and the Rekon.

Vittoria's 2.6" tires measure out to be 2.5" in my experience. Verified on my old 35mm and new 30mm rims.

Thanks. didn't see you were local. Figure this ride sees everything from Grand Ridge, Raging River, and OTG/NOTG at Tiger.

Depending how well my GME money does will determine whether later this year I go for the NX, GX, or X01 transition sentinel. Right now I think that's my clear front runner for next bike. The Evil offering GX build is tempting too considering it gets the grip 2 damper on the 36. But the Sentinels slightly more travel is exactly what I want. I'm not one to brag about climbing times anyway. Hopefully I get my Trance 2 frame piece in from giant soon so I can get a decent amount for it. I'll be selling it basically as Arizona riding season ends. Or when low temps get to be 90+ . That's when I call it quits.

I couldn't get in as early as I would have liked since for some reason Fidelity decided to be a pain in the a** linking my Ally account for deposits. As long as I see green I cannot complain, but Obviously I want the X01 :D
