Do you work on a computer, too? I feel as if you and I are on here a lot around the same time every day haha. I'm never on TW unless I'm at work

LOL, the life of a manufacturing finance/accounting guy...that is bored AF at work.

I'm definitely on here 99% of the time from work because TW is FAR more interesting than GAAP accounting. I actually got a bonus last month for optimizing a lot of our processes, when really I was just trying to find a way to ride my bike more during the week! :D

It pays the bills while I figure out what I really want to do when I grow up!

Yeah we used them last year. Have a group of 8 now so we are hoping to self shuttle to save a few bucks. Are you from OR? Was trying to find laws on people in the bed of a truck but from what I can tell there isn't any penalties in OR if your 18 or over.

There is some climbing on the shuttle trails but that's fine when there is 4k of descent!

I need some noob-level bicycle advice.

This past weekend the GF got herself a department-store special to go riding with me (dirt/gravel, nothing serious). Yesterday, while the bike was still on the truck's bike rack, I noticed her rear wheel was seriously dented. Either someone backed into me, or I clipped something.

The rim is dented beyond being fixable and needs to be replaced. I'm having a hell of a time figuring out just what I need to purchase.

It's a bolt-on, and for simplicity's sake I'd like to keep that. Six sprockets (gears). Freehub cassette. 135mm axle.

    The tire reads: 52-559 (26-2.0).

I understand 559 to be the bead size, but I don't know what the hell 52 is supposed to be. Width of the tire? Measured with my calliper, the inner lip of the rim is 20mm.

I found local wheels for sale which have this on them: Weinmann, 26x1.5/1.95 ETRTO 559x19.

These are quick-release, and if I have to, I'll get a new axle and shaft to work with the QR mechanism. Outside of that, will this rim size work for the tire I have? It seems as if these rims are meant for 26" tires that are 1.95" wide - is that correct? Does the 19 refer to the interior lip measurement? Will my inner tube, currently used with a 20mm interior lip, still work or will I encounter problems?

Pretty sure 52-559 is just 2”-26” in mm. And yes 2.0 or 52 is the width of the tire. The normally range from 2-2.5 in Mtb tires

You can get different widths tubes. YOu should be fine though

Haha. That used to be the case around Seattle! When
its too bad to hear SD hasn’t gotten their ish together. But yeah, lack of open space there is a prob that not easily solved

Back in summer of 99, I was working at la costa in Carlsbad. Ish was going south with the system I was supporting and I knew I wasn’t getting out of there soon. So I agreed to stay as long as it took to fix it, if my co. shipped me my mtb. First ride I rode up to the water tower I could see from the deck of the big hotel. Met some guys at the top, smiled down with them, and ripped down the hill on a great trail. I ended up riding with them a couple nights a week for the remainder of my time there. They showed me Elvin forest, daily ranch and some other spots that aren’t in my brain anymore. good times. But at that time they were all complaining about losing riding spaces to developments.

    Any of that stuff left?

Haha I knew you would be the perfect guy since you came from the sad NOVA area as well. Appreciate the invite on that...Im hoping to maybe make a trip later on this year. That is a hell of a breakdown! So for the most part, its a few hours drive to see the real deal stuff? Currently I drive anywhere from 2-4 hours normally for some solid riding so nothing will have changed here, but hell yea it sounds like a great spot to be. Any of the flow trails have any features and stuff? Would be cool to still work on big hits without getting too complacent, although trail riding and XC is dominant here locally unless I roll to the MD shed for some angry DH trails.

Yeah la costa, elfin, and daley are still there. The local mountain bike association finally disbanded from IMBA(which was taking something like 60% I think membership dues) so more money will stay local from here on out which will help in hiring/allowing people to be full time. Its gotten a lot better over the past few years but its like close 3 illegal trails to open 1 legal trail which has irked a lot of people. But there are a lot of trails in the pipeline.

The thing that always sucks is trails were built and then closed because they were on protected land or native habitat to only be developed with a freeway or house later on.

There is some gnar to be found nearby if you know where to look, but it isn't just laying around the SLC valley area.

Most of the trails here tend to be "all-mountain" or XC type trails here so they tend to be natural. Sometimes you can spot some freeridey stuff on the shoulders of the trails to spice it up.

The trails purpose built to be "flow" usually have some optional features on it. Bobsled is a great example. Basically it was a flow trail, and then stuff keeps getting added to it. Gap jumps over cars, small booters, a few step ups, etc. All optional so you can take intermediate riders all the way to pros down it and they can all take something away from riding it.

If you go south towards Amer. Fork / Orem Bench / Payson Canyon, that is where a lot of Moto turned MTB trails are. A lot rougher riding, which has some great DH segments, but interspersed with soul crushing steep climbs that the motos can just throttle out on.

If you come in the late summer or fall, that's when all of the good riding will be open. Seriously, give me a shout and we can tear it up.

    Bobsled goodness:

I'm gonna guess the Olallie Trail based on Mt. Si in the background. Change Peak Lookout?

Wow that place looks great compared to lame ass NOVA scene. Yea if I roll out there we def have to link up! Was that you hitting that gap? I like how the flow on your trails are figured out from riders who ride this stuff instead of the slow XC guys up here where shit just doesn't work out right. Im trying to remember, but are you an engineer by chance?

Not me, but I have hit some of the gaps in that area.

nope, I'm a finance guy. But I started at Tech as an engineer. Then I realized I didn't care about statics or thermodynamics that much. Looking back, maybe I should have just rucked up and dealt with it. Finance is interesting to me, but how most companies run their finance groups is NOT what I signed up for. Mainly lumping it in with accounting and making roles dual function. The money is pretty good though.
