    Hi all.

Thought I’d share me new Gravel Bike Purchase. It’s a Jamis Renegade Explore. Nothing to crazy I just Wanted a bike that would be perfect for state trail riding in Florida as well as some rode riding. I love it so far. If anyone has any questions on it let me know.

Oh also I’m buying this tailgate cover for the bike today too.

anyone here ever ridden on one of the hawaiian islands? I'm head out for 1.5 weeks in september and would love to get on some trails while I'm out there. I won't be traveling with my bike so I would need to find somewhere to demo/rent.

Dude I want a 1up rack so bad. I have Kuat which is decent but it is so flipping heavy. I have to push it out to the truck on one of my kids scooters. Way to heavy for me to carry it from the garage to the street by myself. (4 bikes)
How do you feel about the locking mech on the 1up? I always think it seems to easy to steal without a cross through on the receiver. If that thing is not super tight, seems it could come out easy.

Lots of road biking out here on Oahu. Plenty to rent due to the Triathlons that are going throughout the year. It really depends on what you're looking for tho...

I'd prefer to get some mountain biking in but I wouldnt be opposed to a nice road ride. I'll really only have a day or so to get on a bike during the trip.

Raced the Big Mountain Enduro in Keystone this weekend. Laid down the suck for 26th in Pro. Got some sweet shots at 0:17 and 2:28 in the highlight video though!

This may be a dumb question, but does anyone clip in anymore. I remember when that used to be the only way to go. Now that I have a new bike, I swapped over my Crank Brothers Mallet M's and bought new shoes and cleats and have been clipping in still. But I seem to be a loner these days. At least from what I see on youtube and most of the bikes being shown off on this thread.

it's all a preference. I used to clip in when I first started riding but I was doing more XC style riding. Once I switched to flats on a full suspension bike and got a bit rowdy I was glad my feet were coming off the pedals and not keeping me attached to my death rocket.

That is kind of where I am at right now. I don't really want them coming down, but going up I sure love them. And I have no choice to ride up. Although I havent tried climbing without them in like 15 years. I know this 1x11 setup is much different than my old 3x8 gearing to start with. Maybe I need more change.

I started riding my fat bike on regular trails last season, and it is the most fun out of all my bikes on my usual trails. My bronson goes fast on the chunky stuff, but the 160/150 bogs down on the more XCish "all mountain" trails bits that northern Utah is known for. My rigid fat bike has set many a PR for me.

    Should have brought this bike...

I switched to flats a few years ago with no regrets. However at least half the guys I ride with still clip in. Aside from quick escapes, I think the flexibility of foot position helps on long climbs and even descents. Plus, both of my 5.10’s are super comfy and secure walking shoes. I wear my old all black ones walking around town all the time; I can hike 5 miles and then wear them to a nice restaurant (the soles are bit thin and I can feel the spikes from my OneUp pedals).

Regarding fat bikes ... almost no one rides them here. Maybe locals are just snobs, or maybe they don’t suit local conditions. When I worked at a local bike shop they just sat on the floor. As I said, we don’t have snow or (much) sand and even a 12mile loop requires at least 1100-1500 feet climbing. If I lived in real mountains (Sierras or Rockies, Utah, Idaho etc) I’d want one for sure.

Honestly, even in UT, fat bikes are kind of a "black sheep" thing. The ones that ride them love them, but there is a lot of hate espoused for fat bikes, despite the commenters never riding one.

Honestly can't say I have ever seen a person actually ride a fat bike with anything less than a shit eating grin on their face!

I've been clipped in for 15 years now. Started with racing xc as a kid being clipped in, and stayed clipped during my pro DH racing days. I enjoy being able to unweight the bike in techy rock chunder and let it "float" underneath me without worrying about blasting my feet off. My only bike without clips is the dirtjump.

I cannot get behind the fat bike fad. i've ridden one, it was fun, but such a bore. i'd rather ride my downhill bike uphill for 5 miles than ride another fat bike.

Agreed, I have a buddy who rides one year round. He can rally the crap out of that thing. Loves it. I would like one for winter riding. Not sure I would enjoy it more than my Santa Cruz Nomad though.

Nothing but clipped in for me. Seems like the younger crowd like the mallets and oldie moldies like myself who started with x-country back in the day won't leave home without em.
