I find this to be true, but with a little patience and technique it's still simple to keep everything aligned.

I'd agree with your friends assessment. They definitely are a bit more work to maintain, but it isn't hard just makes you take a look at your brakes a little more often(which lets face it isn't a bad thing). But there is no way I'd go back to 2 pot brakes

Move the Hopes over, no question!

And 4 pots are not only more powerful, but offer better modulation, and consistency due to heat management. Go 4 pot, get them dialed, enjoy :)

The people have been heard, moving the brakes over along with the Wolftooth dropper lever if I can. Does anyone know if that lever which was connected to a KS Lev Integra on the Transition will be compatible with the Reverb on the Santa Cruz?

Also here's the shock I just picked up from a dude who went to a coil. Almost too gucci for me, almost.

Well the Lev is cable actuated and the reverb is hydraulic, so I am gonna go with no. Wolftooth does make a reverb retrofit lever that is way bette than the oem on e though. If you keep the reverb on the SC, do yourself a favor and buy like 3-5 spare hose barbs for the remote. That's always the thing that breaks in a crash and most bike mechanics can fix it in a jiffy, but none have them on hand speaking from personal experiences.

Edit: The fact that Al's sells a 10 pack of reverb barbs should tell you something.

Dang, might have to swap the post too then. Haven't had a single issue with the KS. I appreciate the insight!

Yeah, get rid of that thing man. So many good dependable dropper options for fair money now. Then you can use that sweet remote, I have one one every rig now.

As for the DPX2, I have one of those on my Troy. Best damn air shock available right now. Super tunable, good damping, supple but had a solid platform (at least on my Troy with a progressive curve).
That said, I also juuuust ordered a CKDB IL coil.
    Couldn’t resist the temptation.

a trick for lazy people like me (who have worked in bike shops for ages) is to loosen the brake mounting bolts, squeeze the brake lever and tighten the bolts back up with the brake lever still squeezed. 99 percent of the time this works great. just make sure your rotor is straight ;) and if its not, theres easy fixes for that too.

I'm new to mountain bikes or any bikes with disk brakes - what is the best way to clean the pistons? I've heard that brake cleaner is not recommended on the rotors - simply wipe with rubbing alcohol. But what about the pistons?

What I do is remove the wheel and brake pads, then put something (cardboard or disk spacer) that is thinner than the thickness of the rotor + pads, between the two pistons and gently squeeze the lever to push the pistons out. Use a Q Tip with alcohol to clean around the piston and caliper. Then dampen a Q Tip very slightly with brake fluid (I have Shimano only, so it’s mineral oil) and lube around the perimeter of the pistons. Pry the pistons back and wipe off the excess oil, and then pry them back some more, install pads, and replace the wheel. Works great, but I don’t do it often enough and often have sticking pistons and dragging pads, which I ignore.

^ if it doesn't work, loosen both bolts just a touch, maybe a quarter turn, squeeze the brake lever and tighten one just barely snug, then release it, re-squeeze the lever and tighten the other just barely snug and spin the wheel, that will usually get it 99% of the time and then you can fully tighten. I find the front brake usually requires the two tighten method, whereas the back brakes I can get as described above.

You can also use business cards to space center the pads. I've had better success using a couple old business cards than the hayes tool.
