It was a blast. it was at a trail network I ride often so I was able to compare times between the different bikes. the firebird 29 shaved probably 30-40 seconds off my usual times on my current bike. I liked the 6 the least but I think that may have been I was shot by the time I got on it, I'm gonna need to get on one again.

I'm probably 1-2 seasons out from a new bike but figure I may as well start trying as many different bikes as I can now. Hoping to get on a transition sentinel for a day when I'm in HI next month.

Nice ride. Not in the market but I am headed that way in two weeks for a 4 week bike trip that includes a stop in Knoxville.

Got my STP SS in commuting duty and slack HT for rest. Rented a 2018 Stumpjumper while on vacation couple weeks ago. Most expensive bike I rode to date and first carbon frame.

Yep- although not as much as I used to (I used to SS full time). I still love the suffering when I get on it though. Sycip 26" SS.

If you go shorter travel, look for something with a progressive rate. Coming from a bigger bike, you'll want that platform for the bigger hits. I had a Devinci Spartan (170/165), and I went for the Troy (160/140). The shorter travel bikes are more fun, they're faster accelerating and have snappier handling, yet can really hang in the rough stuff (outside of full-on techy DH park runs).
There's tons of new options in the mid-travel category nowadays, but I'm partial to the new Devinci Troy.

How many of you guys are running hard tails still? How hard is it on your bodies as you're getting older? Kicking around the idea of buying one for shorter fun rides.

I'm not old, nor do I ride a hardtail... but I can tell you that as long you're not riding anything technical or too rocky, it won't mess you up. I do see a lot of older guys riding hardtail on my local trail. In fact the extra bit of "impact" might be good for you!

I went back to riding a hardtail. It's a lot of fun, you have to pick your lines like we did before FS. The plus bikes make a big difference too. Look for demo day or rent one from your LBS see if you like it.
