I was very close to pulling the trigger on one of these months ago when I was bike shopping. This article gets me fired up in wanting to buy a Trail Pistol now. Considering GG was simply the first for this technology (from my understanding); do you expect to see competition using the technology soon?

We doubt it, for a few different reasons but mainly due to the fact that other brands are already so invested in overseas manufacturing, it would require a huge shift in their business model to drop their current methods and pick this process up. Maybe for smaller boutique brands, say Transition, it could be more feasible, but still tough.

The process also isn't available to the public, but is patent pending. So, GG may just take over the bike world and make everyone's frames one day. Muahahaha.

Good for you man! I took my wife back out to Quanah Hill yesterday and she loved it! (her first time there) I enjoyed it even more this second go-round! It does remind me in spots of Big Cedar, Samson Park and Cameron Park in Waco if you've ever been to any of those...
Dude the Taco looks great. What's going on lift / wheel and tire size wise? Also what sliders you running? Thanks in advance...

pretty simple. I have 2 rubber coated hose clamps from tractor supply mounted in two of the tailgate holes. and I use long strips of velcro to feed thru them and around the rear wheel. the front wheel rides in a wooden stand that I made and they do not move. been rocking this setup a while with over 3000 miles of travel on it.

Man, if I didn't have all these house projects to do (trying to finish during "winter"), I'd be out that way in a heartbeat... I'll shoot you a PM when it's time to go there! The truck has Icon coilovers/shocks/add a leaf and 33-ish Kbro twos on Method NV wheels. All the under metal is from RCI (I made one big bad decision, lol). It was one of my personal pre-reqs before taking it to the trails. The next week I went off-road for my first time ever and, at least, one of the skids earned their keep (felt it hang up because of my obviously terribad line choice (still learning)).

Been thinking of changing my set up and having this set up like yours (softopper and tail gate Thule bike rack) and was wondering if the bike fits in easy without it touching the top of the softopper? And is it akward to put the bike in there and then climb out? or how do you do it? Just wondering.

Just got the softtopper a few weeks ago... I love it's versatility and the thing is bone dry inside even through some gnarly wind driven rain storms. This was the first time trying to put the bike in the back. It worked. It doesn't hit the top, about 4" of clearance between saddle and canvas. Getting it in took more care than just tossing it over with out the topper, but it wasn't bad. I guess it depends on how heavy your whip is and your upper body strength. So I have to get the bike horizontal and slide the rear wheel in between the topper and the tailgate until the pedals are in, then just turn the bars and let the bike 'fall' into place. Sounds weird but it wasn't hard. Now... if you had multiple bikes, you might find yourself running out of room by the third bike. I guess at that point you'd just fold the topper down towards the cab to transport the bikes.

I did find it very easy to get the bike out, just pulled the tailgate handle and the bike slides right into your hands and out of the back without have to slide it out between the topper and the tailgate.

Today was raining, left, the rear window panel rolled and clipped up and things were still dry inside after a 30 minute drive.

I surf a lot and built a sleeping platform. can slide the boards/wetsuit underneath and sleep on top. Just did a trip up North and pretty stoked on the versatility of this set up. It's modular and can easily be taken out which I had to do to get the bike in. In order to use the platform on a bike trip, I'll have to break the platform down to transport and put it up to sleep because of the cross 2x6 is right where my cog/bottom bracket is - not sure how I feel about that, so I might be looking for a 1up for bike camping trips in the future (I have a plan for high clearance rear with swing out and hitch for 1up anyways)... IMG_6551.jpg

best part of the topper so far is chilling in my set up on the cliff in between sessions taking in the view with a cold one...

@RangerComa thats great info and I am very jealous of your set up :) I think this will be the set up I will have as my goal somewhere in the future because the wife and I want to go camping this summer and the softopper would be usefull for that too and many other things.
