You’ll get some good snow use out of that in the northeast for sure. I’d love one but my list of stuff to buy is too long haha

My new to me fuel ex frame is at the shop awaiting new wheels. I’m by default a 29er guy, but I’m thinking of dabbling in the 27.5 world.

I just discovered what I bought turns out to be the 2018 Fuel EX 9.9 frame.

I was a large but I sold it last night.

As for 29ers, I think they're the future and 27.5 will suffer the same fate as 26.
The geometry for 29ers is just getting so good

I feel similar on the subject...my 29er is my go to any day over the 27.5.

My question is what happens next; once 29ers are every bike. What will they come up with next? Will e-suspension become the status quo, different wheel designs? The companies have to continue to create new business for themselves somehow

I've tried to like Plus+ so much but its too much sidewall roll for me, cornering feels a ship in the ocean in my opinion
Maybe my tire pressures were messed up

I will say that, from my last photo of the Hayduke; it's set up as 27.5+ w/ 2.8" tires and I REALLY have to be careful how I set pressures for any given trail. As you stated, sometimes it will go from cornering tight and fast to rolling the tire/sidewalls or just being pogo-stick like with too much bounce in the tires over repeated small bumps/roots. I run those tires at 14-15psi and no more, occasionally less.

Exactly man they have to keep going or else things become the way of the TV. If they can pull it off with the proper material composition then they might be able to make wheels a little bigger than 29, but I think they have to keep in mind with a larger diameter wheel the more dispersed the strength gets or something. So because of that, the more they push beyond the 29er, the better it has to be in terms of strength just to stay in the game.

I bet they find some new movement to work with though as frame manufacturers depend on these so they can justify a new model without redesigning the suspension which at this point I feel suspension is getting pretty standard, but thats just me.

Especially on a rigid bike...those tires can make up a lot.

My prediction is that the MTB evolution will follow the way of dirt bike evolution; a mixing of tire/wheel sizes to maximize speed, efficiency, et al... I know some have tried it in the past with 26 rear/29 front, 27.5 rear/29 front, but the factories and aftermarket haven't yet adopted it as a norm and thrown their R&D weight behind it.

I agree, with the right publicity and racers behind that motion...Im sure it will become marketable.

Been looking at wheelset specs a lot lately (both custom build and factory builds). I think I’ve come to the conclusion that the Bontrager Line Elite (comp if you can find one) is potentially the best bargain available with 108 poe and pretty respectable weight (~$600/set).

As much as I want to pull the trigger on some flashy badass Industry 9 wheels, I’m having trouble justifying the steep price point for only being the weekend warrior that I am.

Don’t get me wrong, the 690 poe hydras blow the Bontrager away in performance. But realistically a guy like me probably won’t notice the difference. The new ‘budget’ I9 101 hubs are only 90 poe and are still in the +$700/set range.

    Am I missing something here?

I don't know if you are super mechanically inclined but if I were you I would try custom building some of your own wheels, personally Im a fan of cheap and reliable. If it were my money I would build up some DT hubs with spank rims. Aluminum isn't the blingiest but I really liked my spank rims on my dj and vibrocore is super cool. I also really like the replaceability and serviceability of the DT ratchet system its pretty sweet.

I love my fat bike, but being fully rigid, sometimes your jaw hurts after riding it through the gnar!

    Speaking of..here's my boy, Blue!

I’ve never tried to build a wheelset. I am mechanically inclined but I’ll likely leave that to the pros lol.

The guys at my LBS really like DTSwiss for those reasons.

The Bontragers are actually very easy to service as well. Toolless serviceability if I’m not mistaken. You can actually make the lowest grade Comps mechanically comparable the higher trim models with a $25 pawl upgrade kit. Too bad the Comp rears are sold out currently.
