Just be sure you install your bilsteins the right way 'round. Yours have resi's in the rear so its obvious, but so many people have their 5100's upside down. Labels go right side up!

Technically I’m an outlier then as I’m running 17”
Nice! Same setup I’ve got. 2nd gen pro kit, which was simply TRD branded non-adjustable 6112s and 5160s. HS 3leaf AAL out back.

Those are light bicycle am733 rims with onyx hubs. Running maxxis 2.5 minion dhf double down 3c and assegai 2.5 double down 3c max terras they’re the shit. Silent hubs with instant engagement, so so nice to pedal, and even nicer when you’re bombing down hills and all you hear are your tires gripping the dirt

Hub question ... so I have whatever SRAM hubs came OEM on my 4 year old Tallboy2, holding up well, no wheel bearing issues, but there is quite a bit of slop before they engage. I’m not sure I’ve really ridden a bike with a really good rear hub, at least where I noticed. Does it really help with fine pedal/crank control when you need to adjust crank position between rocks, or need that instant engagement to get the power to get over something? I am not a great rider and I know where my weakness is on downhills ( between my ... ears) but I wonder if quicker hub engagement would help me get through tight uphill or rocky sections. My bike is non-Boost so hopefully I could find something good but obsolete, for cheap. With lighter rims laced up.

You hit the nail on the head. The most important job the hub has for puttin power down is how fast it engages. I don’t have to half spin to find the sweet spot forbpower it’s always there. As far as rims go, the stiffness translates to more speed. It’ll roll anything without flexing and translates it to forward momentum. Wheels are as important as the suspension. Then you get into the tires, I need double down cash for my tires would explode on the first big jump I do or rock garden I hit full speed

New gravel bike. I’m a roadie at heart but I love this thing

Stock wheel set sucked so I just recently added some Hope 20Five’s with Pro 4 hubs and a set of Specialized Sawtooths in 42c

Good hubs and wheels make climbing much better. Fine adjustments in crank positions let you put power down easier in techy sections, help you keep your speed and momentum up as well with quick hits on the cranks.
Good wheels also make a huge difference in precision and ride quality.
That said, it’s a costly investment and I believe that money is better spent on good tires and suspension first. Those are the best upgrades you can make IMHO.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Getting a new bike. Two choices. Thoughts?!

2019 Bronson S Build (Demo Bike)
    2019 Bronson R Build (New)

Both are discounted a good bit. I don’t race, this is purely to smash!

R build is Yari fork, S gets your Lyrik. I’ve been looking at new SC bikes too and it’s rough going up in price to get the Lyrik. I have a hard time thinking of spending 4K and getting the Yari fork.

If you can pony up the cash for the s, you’ll end up with a better package you won’t feel a need to upgrade on later. The base models come with components that usually don’t last.
