All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I am not sure. Didn’t have seat time on those. Was riding Konas before I jumped into this Bronson.

But from what I read there is a noticeable difference. I will look for the article in which they describe the difference in shock placement.

So, on today's ride, I dropped the chain off the ring... 6 or 7 times...a couple times climbing, or under a little power. Others, just dropping down. 1 time I found my clutch off. I corrected it.

    Frustrating.

Starting to consider a 1x switch...

Or just a bike upgrade... dont need another mind you... but...

@backcountryj bet its the scum you suspect.

Once you go 1x you will slap yourself in the face for waiting this long. In the last 10 years this easily goes in the top 5 innovative products. Yes I know people ran stuff like this before but I'm referring to widespread adoption by bike manufacturers. Next, get a dropper post if you don't have one.

My hardtail is a 1x. And yes, both bikes have droppers.
Having switched back and forth, I am not sold either way....
I like the simplicity from mechanical stand-point, but, on my 2x10, I find I use the front more often.
    I dont know.
I have XT on my 2x... if It is just a matter of new cassette, chain, and chain ring....maybe I will cave....

I went NX 1x11 on my MTB and my gravel bike is 1x11 Apex. The only thing i desire is a cassette with a 10 cog ring vs 11. I could use a touch more speed on flat but it has plenty of climbing gearing. My problem is solvable.

I had an Evil Following. That suspension linkage is very progressive. I'm 160 lbs and ran 230 PSI in the rear shock to reach sag...that bike was like a pinball through rock gardens

go 1x it will be the best thing ever , i switched my old trek Ex to 1x and loved it , upgraded to a rocky thunderbolt a few years later with 2x10 and thought I would deal with it until it wore out then switch, I didn't even make the end of the summer
The biggest thing for me is ease of shifting and its way quieter and simple.

I'm currently eye-fucking these two offerings for a bikepacking rig... I'm just really annoyed that their frames won't work with sliding dropouts.

Put some stuff in a small 35L pack and use that to carry your clothes and food. Voile strap your tent to the bars. You can do it on the cheap super easy. At least enough to where you can decide if you love it or hate it. It's like backpacking with longer range. But when you come off a habit of overl...glamping...it is def a exercise in minimalism.

I like the top one better for the color. Don't forget Trek made the 1120 which is the bikepacker Stache:

The 1120 is definitely on a short list of possibilities, but I'd really prefer steel for its durability and repair factors.

Here's the short list of requirements for my new bikepacking rig:
    1. Must be steel
    2. Must work well with 29x3" tires
    3. Geometry must work well with 120mm or 130mm suspension fork (I'm using a fork with 525mm and 535mm axle-to-crown measurements, respectively)
    4. Must have stealth/internal routing for dropper post
    5. Must be boost rear end (148x12mm)
    6. Must be inexpensive -- I can't afford a custom frame, so it needs to be in the same ballpark as the Bombtrack, or less.
    7. Must be easily converted to singlespeed with sliding/horizontal dropouts.
    8. Must have mounts everywhere on the frame for packs, bottles, front and rear racks, etc.

While I was in the shop, I picked this up. Not on purchase, but just off the ground.

Ya I just need to have a lightweight tent small enough to strap into my bars and maybe some better stuff to cook with.

you can buy a sheet of tyvek for like $10 on ebay. A lot of bikepackers and ultralight hikers are making some neat shelters out of the stuff, folds to the size of a soda can, and weighs like 2 ounces.
