I did a 54 star ratchet upgrade to my DT Swiss 370 hub and it was amazing. You can likely find one of those super cheap and then its about $170 for the components to convert it essentially to a DT 240 hub.

You have to make sure it is a true 370. Some oem DT pawl hubs are not convertible.

Hell yeah! I just got mine dialed in, and it’s sweet! Be aware that it likes a significantly longer chain than most. I screwed up and needed to buy another chain...

Nailed it. Eagle is excellent, but finicky. The rear derailleur also gets wobbly from the B screw over time, leading to shitty shifting.
Shimano feels crazy good and definitely smoother. On-power shifting is a revelation.
I was so damn close to pulling the trigger on axs, but went with xtr/xt instead. Really Eagle is good stuff, but once (if) you switch you definitely won’t regret it.

As long as you’re not trying to take a pic while bombing....:rofl:

    Hells yea buddy!

I ordered the longer 126ct chain. The place I ordered from didn’t have the shorter chain option. Since I don’t know exactly what frame the drivetrain will be going onto yet, I figured longer would be better anyway. No difference in removing 2 or 12 links when it comes time for a build up.

I've also got a virtually new XO1 rear derailer if anyone is interested.

Nevermind what I said about DT Swiss oem hubs, I was wrong. Looking back at my issue - it was that Specialized sell the aftermarket wheelset with dt hubs, but the same rims that came on my SJ were paired to cheap specialized hubs.

    Congratulations on NBD!! :headbang:

I think you're going to love your Surly, man. That is pretty much guaranteed, and everyone needs a decent hardtail arrow in their quiver. Please post pictures of the build progress if/when you can!

Tech guys: I'm trying to change cranks on my SS, the new XTR crank is not tapered at the non-drive side like the current crank. Can I just change the bearings or will I need a whole new eccentric BB?

Yes. Be thorough when checking the carbon condition. No soft spots or cracks-especially around chainstay and bottom bracket
