You've all talked me into it, I'm gonna give Shimano's new 12spd stuff a go! For the past couple weeks i've been running a GX shifter, derailleur, and chain with a XT cassette with great results. Shifting under load is a weird sensation that takes some getting used to but is so satisfying when a shift clicks off without sounding like a trainwreck. Its made a difference in how i ride and attack short punchy climbs. Anyway, I feel like i've had a taste and ready just go all the way now. I've been exclusive with SRAM since i got a real mountain bike back in 2016. Any tips or tricks for a Shimano first timer? I have an XTR chain, XT shifter and derailleur in the cart unless someone with more knowledge has some advice for me.

Thanks for helping spend my stimulus check.

It's all the same tbh. I've been back and forth over the last decade plus and the differences are minor.

Thats tough! Seat covers are nice but a sweet fork is hard to pass up.

For that price its hard to beat. I want to upgrade my Fox 36 but its $310 if I want the new damper or if I want a coil. I'd take a $45 entry fee any day for a fork upgrade.

Just recently converted, and yes there is a difference. I popped a little more for the xtr shifter. I haven’t used the new 12 spd xt, but previous xtr shifters felt better and it’s a fairly small fee to upgrade.. Especially since they last forever.

I rode SRAM XX1 11 speed for the last 5ish years, then various SRAM 10 and 9 speed for a decade before, then Shimano.... anyway, I just moved to the 12 speed XT and setup is straight forward, just different technique than I’ve used in the past. Setting chain length is different and critical and then setting B-tension is also super critical to smoothest performance. Also, not all 12 speed front chainrings work with it, make sure you get one that is specifically compatible with Shimano 12 speed. I went with the new One-up Switch setup.
