Agreed, my Evil is progressive. I prefer progressive over linear so it's a good match

The bold in your comment is what has me conflicted on a coil. My frame is, to my understanding, a pretty progressive linkage design. But I don't want to lose the playfulness that the bike presents with an air shock. I know its subjective and personal preference, just a bummer to thrown down coin on the unknown.

Aren't the Evil's super progressive? Seem like great bikes for a coil shock.

If you're riding an Evil you should have a coil

They are. Still feels poppy to me.... I can climb with the climb switch open and I'm not blowing through coil travel. I can take it to the bike park but also do a big climbing day

Yea, I've really wanted to try one on my bike as well. It would be nice if shops would allow a demo process for shocks. I'd be way more likely to upgrade if I could throw a different shock on my bike for a ride. In theory, it wouldn't be too hard to implement but I know every bike needs a different shock and it'd be hard to keep that stock around. Forks may be easier to implement since they're more universal fit.

I reached out to the guys at Evil here in town and they actually recommend the DPX2 over anything else. I originally tried an X2 but it was awful. That large air can didn't play nice for some reason... even with volume spacers added

My old Insurgent is my test bed for new stuff that I want to try. I'm a coil guy but I wanted to try the Float X2. The Float X2 (for my weight and riding style) gives about 90% of the performance of my 11-6, but is 300 grams lighter and also more "poppy". Having said that, I put my old 11-6 back on the bike because I just love how it feels.

Seems to be a lot of confirmation bias with mountain bikes. Literally nobody ever talks poorly about their bike - "I can have 4k feet days and still race a DH course the next day, it's a perfect bike." Everyone justifies their too expensive purchase. Rant over

All that to say, I rode a Following with air shock for about three months and never could get the rear to feel how I wanted. That damn frame was so progressive it never felt "settled," rock gardens weren't consistently a problem because the rear never settled into the travel. I really think a coil would have helped immensely

The first thing I do with any a airshock that comes stock with my Evils (I have 4 of them) is to ditch any volume spacers.

Im on an SB130, so more progressive than past Yeti designs but probably not as progressive as the Evils? I wanted a Cane Creek Inline with a progressive coil but I can get this DHX2 (with too light of a coil for me unfortunately) for $350. Not sure which way to go....

I'll be the outlier. My overforked Bronson was better than my undersized Stumpjumper, but the even slacker head angle made it suck on the climbs and lazy on slow steering. So much happier with my less expensive Sentinel, but haven't found the thing that annoys me yet with this one.

There. Dissed 2 bikes at once.

Edit: My Sentinel wheelbase is long as balls. Thats what annoys me, because Utah loves tight switchback climbs. High Star Ranch I was in the weeds on half the exits on the way up because I couldn't get the front around enough.

"Yo dawg, we heard you like switchbacks" Fun on the down, ugh on the up.

Yeah, it's all capital intensive as a barrier. I am honestly surprised a big name like GoRide for us in SLC doesn't do something like that, but I'd guess the amount you'd sell wouldn't outweigh the investments. Plus with frames, etc always changing shock sizes, etc, you'd have to turn a portion of the stock every year at a loss a la demo bike fleets.
