No and No. It simply makes the installation part of tapping into the electrical system less ntrusive.

Is it possible for you to take a picture under your car of where you ran your wires under there? I looked under my truck and simply wasn't sure of where to hide them so they weren't exposed.
    Thanks:)

Thanks for all of the ongoing interest and compliments for this mod.

I have not been active on this site much in the last several months as this has been the most stressful year of my life after moving across country again and then having wife inform me three weeks later that she was divorcing me after 18 years.

I'm slowly digging myself out of a big rift that has sucked me down for the last 3 months where most days are spent in my office just besides myself on the whole deal.

I would be happy to snap a few more detailed pictures that show how I hooked this up - it was really pretty simple.

That sucks man, my wife did that before our 4th anniversary rolled around. And she couldn't keep her pants on until she was done with school and could better support herself so I'm stuck with her for a while.

So hang in there, it'll get better.

I used 2 oznium LED "spot" lights and a mercury switch. The spot lights are really bright.. just the 2 mounted to the underside of the hood are bright enough to light the engine bay enough to do just about anything.
Mercury switches work when they are tilted, the mercury slides to the end with the contacts, closing the circuit. I decided this would be a much better option than a pin switch after reading about alot of people having trouble with their pin switches.

I couldnt be happier with this mod.. total cost was about $60.
oznium LED spot lights - $20 each
mercury switch (from Amazon.com) -$10 with shipping
    a fuse and wire- +/- $10

I used the Oznium.com Led Spot lights too, but mounted them to the underside of my hood, and used a mercury switch. Mercury switches work based on the tilt, so when hood goes up, lights go on, hood goes down, lights go off.

Menards has some cheap globe led weather resistant bulbs that are about the size of a quarter for around 10 bucks that I installed and work/look great.
