Really digging this so far man! I am def going to be stealing a few ideas from your bed. I want to rework my flatbed and get my bedsides hung.

On another note, a guy from Florida is coming to buy my 82 in a few weeks so you might see it around!

Thanks! steal all the ideas you would like.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for the 82, that's a good looking truck

Called the guy about the axle the other day and he said it's been done and that he just didn't call me.... cool I guess.

Either way, I picked it up and started putting all the crap back on it. I had to grind/clearance the reid knuckle because it was rubbing the inner C when turning. Got the steering arm installed and got the tie rod cut to length and tacked up. I will be replacing these high-clearance TRE's with regular ones because I have tons of room between the tie rod and the diff cover. Ordered the rest of the seals and bearings to get the axle back together.... should be here by next weekend.

Axle is almost complete. I just have to install new bearings, hubs, and buy new calipers and it will be ready to go. I also got the remaining heims and DOM tube for the links/panhard.

Picked up some Chevy 63" springs and an IFS Toyota box from the local salvage yard for $160 for everything. The springs had an add-a-lead, so I will be selling those to recoup some money.

Not much to update but I checked the wheel clearance and it looks like all will clear just fine. I got all of the frame side brackets cut and drilled and will build the rest of the mounts when I start the truck. Steering box plates are also cut and drilled and the 63's have the add-a-leaf removed and the overload leaf cut down. Axle side panhard mount was also cut, bent, and tacked into place for now until I start the swap. I left that bracket tall because I don't know exactly where the hole will be for the heim. I will cut it down later on if I need to, which I probably will.

I read through some of the posts quickly, so pardon me if I missed it. Do you have any plans for aluminum components, like a bumper or bed rails?

No I do not. The bed as is it sits is done and I will be building a fairly generic front tube bumper with the common carbon steel tube/pipe.

Well then, my subtle hint back-fired. Have any experience with aluminum? I'm considering bumpers, but really don't want the extra weight of steel as my truck won't exactly be beating around on rocks. There are several DIY kits that just need to be welded together, which saves tremendously on the price.

Haha I caught the hint, I promise. I have aluminum experience but no way to weld it outside of work (not allowed to work on personal items). All I would really need would be a spool gun and a bottle of argon and I could, but it's one of those things that would rarely get used for me so I never bothered getting one.

Alright. I'm interested in seeing the tube front bumper, as well as if you would consider building one for a 2nd Gen.

keep an eye out here in the next 2 months or so and I will hopefully be far enough into the build to have the bumper done. I could build one for a 2nd gen, as long as time permits.

Got some parts in from Ruffstuff that I was able to tack up today. Hopefully everything clears. And yes, I decided to go with coils instead of coil-overs. I wanted to try something different and this was obviously substantially cheaper as well, which leaves more money for rear gears, locker, tires, hydro-assist, and so on.

Figured I might as well start on the interior roll cage because I had some tube laying around and I am waiting for money and more parts anyway

Final report for the weekend. Got the frame done, oil pan on, and axle roughly where it will be at full bump.
