    hey everyone,

i was out cleaning my truck today and noticed that the 'paint' or coating on the stock rims was bubbled in a lot of places and completely missing in others. it not a lot that has peeled off but its noticeable. guess i will have no choice but to do the black out of my rims. any tips for sanding this all off, besides the ideas posted already?

    thanks!

You don't HAVE to black them out. You can paint them ANY color. There is even a Duplicolor line of "Wheel Paints" that have some basic wheel colors (Silver, Gun Metal, Blue, White)

As far as painting- There are a few threads around that have great info for how to pre, prime, and paint your rims.

Let us know if there is anything else!!

Holy... I know winter can can cause damage, but thats bad. See what the dealer can do.

My 05' TRD Sport rims also have some bubbling, not near that bad, and they sit out every winter... I'll bet if I didnt run Winter steelies, mine would be even worse than yours.

Mine on my 05 are doing the same thing. This summer I am going to paint them black like this since they seem to only be bubbling on the inside of the rim.

looks good, but the only problem with mine is that the bubbling has started on face of the rims too, so all black if the dealer doesnt help me out

It looks like those have not been cleaned in a long time. That is a big reason why they are damaged. If you get custom wheels you will need to clean them. That would be not be covered under warranty by a wheel manufacture, that would be neglect.

sadly i had just cleaned my truck, drove to work and took the pics when i got home...friggin road salt. i go to the car wash and pressure wash all the crap out of the rims and other areas of the truck.

the dealership actually admitted to this being an issue on the trd sport rims... because i am out of warrenty they are deciding if they are going to refinish or replace them for me, i find out next week:rolleyes:
