Nearly done blacking Lucy out. I hand painted the SR5 emblems on the side, and they look like crap. Gotta re-do those. And I'm gonna totally de-badge the tailgate, want to get some big black letters to put TOYOTA across it, and a red letter on black border saying "Tacoma PreRunner SR5 V6 for across the bottom of the tailgate. Will hit up SockMonkey for those once I get employed again.

Now, should I take the TRD stickers off the sides?

I would, as soon as you get some Sockmonkey decals to replace it.

Good plan. I can ask him to make me up some black ones (or select from his already available ones).

I gotta' tell you, the truck looks good with the blacked out chrome. Damn, I have something else to do now. What did you do to the wheels? Paint, or powdercoat? I was thinking of black wheels and de-badge?? JUst a thought.

They're painted. After seeking advice here and getting some excellent tips, I shot them with aircraft stripper, then wire brushed them, two coats of primer and two coats of matte black. Only place it wants to come off is the lugnuts, hard chrome on those. I still have a half a can of the matte black so whenever I see a little shine on them I just quick shoot them.

On my 99 the rear bumper is rusting around the factory hitch hole, that is why I was thinking of black, a buddy of mine has a media blasting shop and could get the bumper down to bare metal and then I would powercoat them,(when my rich uncle gets out of the poor house) till' then I like the look of the matte finish and I like the idea of easy touch ups in the drive way. Hey, not to invite myself, but if you do have some drive time in Ocala anytime soon, I'm in Melbourne keep me posted. I've hunted there once, camped there plenty. Just an Idea...Kevin

Kevin a hook-up here in Ocala sounds good to me. I'm busy through Tuesday next week, unless I get employed before I'm good anytime after that. Gimme a yell when you wanna come visit.

    Lucy's looking good man!

Looks 10000x better blacked out vs chrome!

My tailgate right now is debadged, but the rest are on there (SR5 behind the pop out window and Toyota Tacoma on door) I'm debating blacking them out or taking them off. Being that I have a black truck, I think blacking them out wouldn't really do much good. I took want black TRD stickers for the sides, and maybe the classic TOYOTA on the tailgate in black too. Now I just gotta get tint and black wheels

The TOYOTA TACOMA on the doors come off very easily, I used a hair blowdryer and fishing line. Cut the TOYOTA off them and blacked out the TACOMA, recentered them under the mirrors. Stuck them back on with black RTV.

I heard horror stories about those damn SR5 emblems on the sides breaking in little pieces taking them off...so I attempted to paint them in place with a good model airplane paintbrush. Looks like crap. They're gonna come off soon.

I've always thought gold on black vehicles looks sharp, as long as it's not carried TOO far.
