Anyone else experienced this problem with AlphaRex headlights or installing any other aftermarket headlights requiring tapping into the fuse? For 3rd gen Tacomas

I bought these brand new MKII Pro-Series and installed today (I know I know I shouldve bought OEM LEDs but they’re so damn expensive) on my SR5 Tacoma. Wired everything as instructed including the fuse tap into the INJ fuse.

When I turn on the car the DRL’s automatically turn on and won’t turn off at all even when key is out, DRL switch is to OFF, and waiting a few minutes. Seems to only turn off when I unplug the battery or unplug the power cord to the harness.

I called Alpha Rex and they are sending a replacement DRL harness but I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this problem and if so how did you rectify it.

    attached photo for reference.

Why are you wasting your time with piece of crap Chinese junk. You think that the OEM's are expensive? No, they're not. They're worth every penny they cost because you know they are the best you can get and that alone, if they're properly aimed, may very well save you, your family and your truck by being able to avoid something you'd never see coming with what you have now. And now look at the time you've wasted by fucking around with crap. I'd send them back for a refund if you can still get one and if you can't, just toss them in the trash and call it a major lesson learned.

Buy Toyota OEM LED headlights. @daveeasa (TRD OR) and @Puppypunter (SR, Sport) makes harnesses that work consistently. And the will also tell you about Chinese junk, just maybe be a little nicer about it.

Yeah that's your problem. The INJ fuse gets power at certain times when the truck is off, for various evap system tests.

Funny thing is, Alpharex's warranty is longer than Toyota's parts warranty. That's how much faith Toyota has in its OEM headlights.

It’s because the fuse you’re tapped into, it’s normal. Inj fuse will be powered anytime the truck is on. And there isn’t any other fuse in the fuse box that will work where you can turn the drl off with the stalk. Happens with all aftermarket headlights with sr5s because there isn’t a factory drl plug like trd models. Live with it or unplug the fuse and not have the drl
Edit TLDR; I guess them staying on even when the truck is off is a problem, it shouldn’t do that. The alpha Rex headlights have a start sequence when lock/unlock is clicked where the drl stays on for 30 seconds then turns off, but you said a couple of minutes and that’s not normal. Inj fuse doesn’t do the evap cycling thing, the one right next to it (efi) does do it, so it’s probably a problem with the control box harness thing and it will probably be solved when AlphaRex sends you a new one

I figured it out. Pro-model AlphaRex headlights don’t need DRL harnesses, only the SR5 converter for SR/SR5. Their customer support finally got back to me to confirm but I would say their support really is terrible and don’t respond back in a timely manner.

The light output is actually not too bad and is comparable to stock output but a bit brighter. I agree that going OEM would be the appropriate route but that wasn’t an option for me at the time. For now, I’m going to stick with what I got given that I only drive the truck on some weekends anyway (not my daily).
