I actually installed this into my 3rd gen Tacoma. I can share some pictures and even some install tips. I had to redue the harness since I got the wrong one from Crutchfield.

I have an ILX-207 and a couple of things.

    1) How is that brake cutout wire working, I absolutely HATE how far alpine locks out their head unit while driving. You can turn up the volume and change a song and that's about it. I am going to grab a workaround kit and wanted to see if you were happy with yours.

    2) For the usb, maestro makes a wire that lets the factory usb stay an input and charging system. I am not sure if it works with your model, but I charge and play out of my factory hookup.

So, much promised pics and a progress report.

    HEAD UNIT: Alpine iLX-W650
I got the head unit installed (mostly) and hooked up through the amp. The Metra dash bezel looks really good, but I still need to adjust the fit a tiny bit to make everything copacetic. The bezel clips are an absolute necessity when installing to get it to fit snugly and in alignment, and I'm still missing the bottom two. I'll get it all put together right, hopefully this weekend.

    AMPLIFIER: Alpine MRV-V500 5 channel
This is the amp I've been running. It's super clean, and I love that it's got 5 channels in one, so installation was a snap. It outputs 45W RMS to the front and rears, and 250W RMS to the subwoofer, which has proven more than adequate to drive the new12" subwoofer and the JBL stock speakers. I put it under the passenger seat so It's neat and convenient, and has plenty of air circulation for cooling.

SUBWOOFER: JL Audio 12" Vented Truck Box
I had been running an 8", so I switched it out for the 12" JL Audio subwoofer truck box, and with 200W going through it, it thumps hard. Really hard. Even at low volumes, you can feel the bass as much as hear it. I need to play with the head unit's crossover network a bit to fine-tune, but already it sounds amazing, especially when compared to the 8" version.

    SPEAKERS: JBL Stock
I haven't installed the new ones yet. I purchased the Infinity Kappa 6.5" separates for the front doors, and the JL Audio 6.5" coaxials for the rear half doors in my access cab. The idea of pulling door panels and such is a bit daunting at the moment, so I'm trying to get all the main stuff done first. So far, the addition of a true heavy bass subwoofer with an assignable cutoff in the head unit has made even the stock speakers sound so much better. I was always a fan of the stock JBL system, but my front left has begun to rattle, so it's time for a replacement all around. I'll get to it...promise

ACCESSORIES: Sirius XM, Backup Camera, PAC TR7 lockout bypass
I haven't installed the SiriusXM moduel or the backup camera yet, but will soon. I decided to go with the PAC TR7 lockout bypass, and it was an absolute breeze to install. It works right out of the box for the Alpine unit with zero programming changes. And it works! I can now access all my settings in my head unit without having the e-brake on and can access my camera while driving. I'm going to install a front camera too, so this is a handy little module to have.

And now for a couple pics...

A quick note about the factory JBL speakers I'm still using.... They really came alive when I removed the factory head unit and installed the aftermarket amplifier. With the old head unit, the sound wasn't very clear, and it was even muffled in a lot of ways. It was icky all around.

Adding some serious power to them really woke them up, and they seriously perform quite well. Amazing what a few watts will do for them. I'm looking forward to swapping them out for my new ones, but if you're on a tight budget, and you have the JBL Sound system in your Tacoma, they'll still work for you with a power upgrade.

To the OP...did your truck come with a factory installed rearview camera? If so, does it work with your aftermarket head unit?

With the harness I received from Crutchfield, it does.

Currently, I’m Having issue accessing the menu. It works just can’t change the setting. I need to install a bypass, I’m hoping that solves it.

I'm an installer and just installed this unit into a land rover lr3 yesterday. It had the harmon kardon system that was fiber optic so I had to bypass it. I ended up using the KTA-450 amp that mounts to the back of it. I will say that the install was intense on this vehicle and you better have room behind the dash if your going to install the amp BUT I'm impressed so far with the unit and amp. nice option for people that want a little more power ( actually a lot more ) and not want to install a traditional 4/5 channel amp.

I'm in a 2006 Tacoma, which is pre-backup camera. It just had the AM/FM/CD head unit stock, but I replaced it with an Alpine unit several years ago. I'm not sure when factory backup cameras became a thing (I'm guessing 2012?) but mine definitely didn't. I need to route my camera cable to the rear hitch and then hook it up on this new head unit. I'm also going to route a front cam for it too while I'm at it, since the iLX-W650 has inputs for both.

I ordered this same head unit from crutchfield with the steering wheel control module pre-wired. I ran into the same bypass issue. Could you give me some specifics on how you wired your bypass into the wiring harness? I’m sort of new to car stereo install.

    Thanks!

Does your steering wheel have controls? I am wondering if you lose the oem functionality when you swap out the original unit. Never done it before.

Yes my steering wheel has controls.
I added the PAC RP4.2 TY11 interface, that shows up on their list of things to get. A lot of other wires, and i was initially confused, but just had to reread the schematics.

I am currently doing this install with the W650 and Tr-7. But I notice the Tr-7 wants both handbrake and footbrake wired, but the Alpine has only the "Parking Brake" Input. Any advice on how to handle that?

This worked for me too. @Bridge4, this would fix your brake/settings issue.

I just had this unit with the amp installed in my 2010 yesterday. Very impressed. My pickup has the rear view mirror backup camera and I had them wire up the ixl-650, it's a lot more useful than the little mirror display.
