This trip looks amazing. What's the window for these passes to be well, passable? From what I understand they are covered in snow most of the year and impassable.

I was honestly surprised at the usefullness of the thing....

It'll never look like it did when it was new, but it worked well to cook on.
Saw some options at the ol' wally world the other day and thought about it.

I used that second one in Montana last year, the height adjustability was really cool and useful.

Most of the ones we ran had opened just a few weeks prior. They actually plow most of them as well, if they didn't might not be until August. Check out the drifts below, these were fairly small, some of the bigger ones were still 5-10' walls next to the trail.

A few of the trails up closer to us are only open for 3-6 weeks all year, very small window to hit them.

Nice trip report! Looks like the conditions were close to identical from the week before when we were there. The wall was impassable with the amount of mud and the rain/sleet coming down. We all had to winch up.

So as I read through this it appears that in your group the only truck with a locked front end made it up the wall? That would be the same thing with us since @NYCO is the only one locked in front.

No, Matt doesn't have a front locker. He does have bigger tires than the rest of us, and got a chance to hit it before the harder rain set it.

I would've liked to try the father right line where Matt made it up, but being last in the rain with people waiting it was time to pull line and continue on with the trail. Next time....

    I don't think Matt's locked up front....
He is on 35's with LT though, and it was drier for him.

Plus he's an excellent driver :D
