Awesome idea, I'm gonna use saltwater leader. If I do two of them caddy corner and make them with almost no slack, this will keep it from flying out, and it will make it secure. Two birds

The dobermans provide security when the glass is removed. :D

The only thing I'd be worried about is how fragile magnets are and that they weaken over time.

Im with you, my dog loves the back window. Plus I find it much safer from random flying road debris.

I'm not sure about the magnets getting weak.
Here is where I get my magnets.

If anyone wanted to do this I would be willing to send the adhesive to them. It took me a week to find the stuff and it ain't cheap. I have enough to do 50 windows lol

The fixed rear window is my only gripe with my second gen. Love the truck, but my pup got a downgrade with no opening back window.

***Just noticed the date of the original post. Any update from the original poster???

I like the idea of operable half cab windows and was hoping you had sourced some hardware off another car and found a way to make them work.

The magnets are a neat idea but I have some reservation about whether it is the right application for them. Magnets don't do well under sheer force. Think about when you have two powerful magnets stuck together, you can't pull them apart- but you can induce a sheer force and slide them apart and as soon as there is too little surface area touching they come apart. I would think this would be the same action on your window when you hit a large bump. If we exaggerate and say you are landing hard from jumping your truck, the weight of that window with a sheer force going straight down will likely take more than the magnets can handle (in my guesstimation).
Now if you install a seal- the seal works by pushing pressure between the window and frame, that pressure will be taking away some of the magnets force. You could glue some 'L' type bracket to the bottom of the window (coming straight off the glass and 90* straight down) that rests/ hooks on the door frame and takes the downward force (could put some type of padding under the 'L' bracket) and prevents the bottom of the window coming out under a sheer force. Then the magnets would be to hold the glass to the truck and not have to deal with the sheer force.

Love the doberman! And a big thumbs up for rescuing him:thumbsup: That was my first dog growing up, great dogs!

Also really REALLY hoping for an update here. I have been scouring all over the internet and brainstorming ideas for mine. This concept has crossed my mind… so I am really hoping to know how this has gone long term.
Do you do any sort of off-roading with this???
