Hmm, with locks? Not that I've seen. Try searching the thread/pitch and length under mcmaster/carr for different bolt heads maybe?

I used “tamper proof” hardware. Half the bolts are spanner style, the other half are security torx. Aint fool proof, but should be a deterrent or at least slow ‘em down.

Used smallish boat cleats, 4” I believe. Had em powder coated to match the same bronze as my wheels.

I'll preface by saying: I love tnutz. They've been fantastic to work with, have combined orders at my request, always get items out ASAP. HOWEVER: their replacement cross bars do not allow for standard carriage bolts to slide into the t-slot channel on almost all of the aluminum extrusion I've ordered over the last two years. I've ordered 11x cross bars to fill in the gaps on my prinsu top and cab racks, god knows how much extrusion for my truck bed box, and I even have a DIY mid-height bed rack made with spare extrusion from projects over the years. I think I have successfully gotten a carriage bolt head in the channel on one of the bars. No issue with sliding them along the channels on my prinsu bars.

Just keep in mind, if you want to use your third party cross bars, and use the channel for bolting things to, order one to start and doublecheck. I've gotten around this issue with using roll-in tnuts with set screws, but almost zero carriage bolts.

I’ve had the same experience. I just thought it was my brand of carriage bolts. I just adjusted the head of the bolts so they would fit into the slots. I was a pain in the ass but it worked. The “T” nuts or bolts are the way to go.

Where did you remove material, on the edges of the heads of the bolts, or on the shoulder/neck portion? I thought about doing this, even looked online for same thread/size bolts but with smaller head dimensions, couldn't fine any with smaller specs.

So I’m getting my first rack are any of these used to actually mount the rack to the cab? I scored a Prinsu for basically free, but the previous owner lost the hardware

Thanks for this post. Just got mine and all the lock washers are missing. The online instruction says that they (Prinsu) remove lock washers for screws between 2 vertical rails and cross bars. But not lock washers for 2 vertical rails to roof or for wind deflector. I contacted them online and am waiting for their response.

Posted this on a Prinsu thread I found before finding this one so hope it’s okay to post here for more visibility.

I have some rusty hardware that I planned on replacing before reading that they broke off when trying to remove them. I want to avoid that altogether. Is there a black paint product that I can use to paint over the rust that looks decent that lasts a while or allows for future touch ups?

I've been using POR-15 Semi-Gloss Black Rust Prevention paint.

Did you just dab it with a paintbrush while the bolts were still on the rack? How did it turn out and how often did you have to do it?

Exactly. Also applied to CMC, pinch weld hammer, front bumper/ skid plate. Holds up well. Touch ups blend. Seems like a solid product. I've only used 1/2 pint for all of these little things.

FYI: The can is a real PIA to reopen if it drips along the rim and dries with the lid back on. Way more than normal paint. Prob some chemical sealing. I started using a piece of foil to catch drips so this wouldn't happen.

Do you have any pictures of the bolts you painted before I drop some money on the POR15?
