BTW, my wife mentioned adding gas, I said one word: fraud. Would rather have some credit card debt than a jail sentence!

Well, last question, I hope! Is the Tacoma safe to drive with a chirping HPFP? Or is it just a matter of time before the rod to the cam blasts through the cap spewing high pressure gas all over?

Update on the saga of the chirping Tacoma. Non-ethanol fuel has been fully drained from the tank and replaced with the corn syrup.

Chirping from the pump came back immediately. Could not a get a good recording of it because the engine hasn't hit a cleaning cycle yet.

Still working with Toyota corporate. Will post updates as I get them.

Let me know where you're at OP, curious as to how our situations resolve themselves.

That one is still around, sitting nicely in your tank. The high pressure fuel pump driven by the camshaft puts out a few thousand psi, so the mechanical tolerances are finer than a Swiss watch.

For entertainment, look up common-rail diesel high pressure fuel pump prices for Duramax and Cummins engines on full-size trucks.

Would you like to see a video of high-pressure fuel injectors needing to be removed with a slide hammer?
