Fixed my leak today with some 3/8 metal hose and clamps made the return line 1 line and removed the old rusted crap where the leak was. Cost less than $20 for the clamps line and fluid

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
I have this same problem with my 4x4 V6 2005 Taco SR5. It did get the frame replacement 2 years ago, but that was before I owned it. I have leaking transmission lines and the power steering lines are not leaking, but very very rusted (like first post). I went to the dealership and tried to tie these into the frame recall but the rep would not budge. Scott Clark Toyota in Charlotte, NC area.

So they are replacing the transmission oil cooler lines for $450 total. (sigh) I would like to do both PS lines myself. The return line sounds easy from the posts here, so no problem there. However, I need more info on the high pressure side. Is this a fair DIY, or should it be left to a dealer or repair shop? 1600PSI sounds like alot and I dont want to mess up my Taco over it. Also has anyone got the dealer to cover these items as part of the recall/warranty?? Any recommendations on where to get aftermarket part? Im at 129k miles. Thanks in advance all.

hose Is not fun to replace but for 100 on ebay you get both sides

1600 psi is nothing, my 95 F350 diesel injectors use higher than that. Its just a hose with a nut on it

So what size line wrench? Also assuming a mess and great losses of ps fluid, what's the process after replacement? Fill the reservoir, start engine and turn wheel side to side, fill?

I'm dealing with a leaking power steering line. It's the metal part of the small diameter line that runs to the reservoir on the inner fender well. (Right by a frame member above the skid plate.) 2006 Prerunner BTW. The connections look like barbed connections with hose clamp (the spring kind.) Dealer wants ~$340US for a set of hoses.

It doesn't seem like that could be a pressure line - just a return or feed to the reservoir on the inner fender liner. I plan to remove the metal pipe from the hoses and see if I can get that made up. Anyone done this or have other wisdom to share?

    Thanks!

You are correct. Small diameter is not the pressure line. I plan on replacing mine and have the parts but haven't done it yet. It was rusted but not yet leaking. Is yours leaking or pretty bad?

Not leaking too badly but bad enough that I wouldn't want to take any long trips. And it is leaving spots where I park. I've got it out and plan to stop by truck repair shop today. I might just find a matching piece of metal line and bend it to match, but if they can duplicate the barb on the line I'd like that.

I also noticed that it leaked more when I pulled the other end of the rubber connector from the reservoir than when the truck sits there idling so it definitely isn't under pressure during operation.

Yeah I'd fix it at that point. I used the smaller diameter of a golf club shaft and cut to about 8 inches, wedged into return line from Amazon about 4 inches and hose clamped it to the new line. Just sitting in the garage waiting to put it in.

It looks like it's ~$40CAD on RockAuto and probably about $25CAD FedEx shipping. I've found RockAuto to be extremely easy to deal with as a Canadian, shipping is as fast and cheap as you can hope for. I get wholesale at NAPA and RA still undercuts them by a 1/3 on a regular basis. I'm at the point where I kind of panic if RA doesn't have what I need since I know that it means that I'll be over paying somewhere else.

All I needed was the metal part. I got a piece of 3/8" brake line 51" long and cut what I needed. I made it a little longer since it would not be barbed and provided a little more overlap so I could fit two worm drive hose clamps. I was able to remove the bracket under the reservoir but could not do that with the one on the frame cross-member. I cut the tubing on either side of that, bushed out the piece in the bracket and slipped the new pipe into that. I'm happy with the result. The brake line was $8.29US at NAPA and the hose clamps were $2.99US at Autozone (because someone was too forgetful to pick them up at NAPA <eye roll>.) I still haven't finished the partial bottle of Dexron that I used to top up and then refill the reservoir.
While I had the bash pan off I also replaced the serpentine belt because mine was looking a little raggedy. That cost more than all the parts for the power steering fluid leak.

Minus well flush and bleed since you opened up the system. V6 PS takes Dexron III ATF, not sure about 4 cyl, but probably the same as that is what is also called for in my other pre-2015 Toyota/Lexus products.

It is a return line very close to zero pressure very simple repair. No you don't have to "bleed" it will do it all by it's self.
