    Hey guys,

Newbie here. I found some step by step ways to change my alternator in my 2006 Double cab pre-runner V6 and got it done no problem. However after slipping the serpentine belt back on and starting the truck up the belt shredded after a few minutes. The half of the belt is still okay, which shredded the anterior half. There is no play in the alternator after tightening the two bolts.

What could be the cause of this? Was it that a groove was off one of the pulleys or could I have mounted the alternator wrong causing it to be slightly out of alignment.

You can get in the right spot and look at the pulleys to see if they are lined up, but I'm willing to bet that you didn't have the belt on all the pulleys right which shredded it. Make sure that the old chords and pieces from the belt are not wrapped around any pulleys and put a new belt on.
