So my truck died idling at a stoplight friday with a battery light on(charging system failure), had the alternator tested and it failed under load. Put a new alternator in friday, today at a stoplight it does the same and dies. I wait half an hour, starts up, runs and idles. I tested voltage at the battery with my voltmeter and its charging fine...

    Wtf is going on?

What voltage did you read at the battery while the truck is running?

Some new alternators are bad out of the box.
    Where did you get it?

Describe how the truck died. Did your electronics just go out? Did they fade out?

Usually battery and alternator go hand in hand.

voltage is 14v+ when running, got it from kragen/o'reilly. off the battery still shows 12.5v+.
rpm stumbles and then just cuts power, all electronics stay on.

I let the truck sit for roughly an hour and then drove it home like nothing happened.

If your electronics stil stay on, its nothing to do with the charging system. Check your MAF and fuel system. Have you ever changed the fuel filter?

Check ALL of your ground cables in the engine compartment.
I think there are at least 2, other than the one from the battery.
One could be loose, or badly corroded.

i'm willing to bet it's a clogged up and dirty IAC given that your charging system is in tip top shape. take it apart and clean it out.

Is there an easy way to go about removing he fuel filter on the 2.7? I got the front bolt loose for the line, but the back line i basically can't get shit in there.

Don't you love it when OP doesn't give a f*ck anymore when the problem is fixed? I'd assume that it was the fuel filter, otherwise he would have been back for more suggestions.
