Looks like thin dark black "grease" coming out of front cover on alternator. Also seems to be on inside of pulley and between pulley and front cover. Charges at 13.4v. Any ideas as to what this is?

Oil leak either current or previously repaired.

Typically on that side it's either the oil filter draining on to it, or more likely your oil pressure switch is leaking.

Sure it isn’t oil from someplace else?

Thanks for the replies. I keep the engine bay very clean however I have degreased that specific area again and will watch it. Its just weird. Seriously looks like a heavy oil or thin grease coming out of the front cover vents on the alternator. I may have a timing chain cover leak also but I thought read where those usually appear on the passenger side of the engine.

When you say “front cover” do you mean the front of the alternator.
As on the grease is behind the pulley and on the front of the alternator?

Or are you saying the oil/grease is between (behind) the alternator and front timing cover?

Are you sure it's not something else leaking oil that the belt is picking up and leaving behind on the alternator pulley?

Are you the original owner? Do you use the quickie oil change places? Guessing someone didn’t know the trick to stick a container or hose on the oil filter thing. If it’s a tiny amount I wouldn’t worry. If it flinging a mess all over, a can of brake cleaner should do the trick.

No residue on any other pulley. I am the original owner and do all my own maintenance and I’m pretty meticulous about a clean engine and engine bay. Brake cleaner is a heavily used staple in my garage! I did use brake cleaner to remove it and cleaned/degreased the timing chain cover. Also put UV dye in the crankcase so hopefully I’ll be able to rule a timing chain cover leak in or out. All the thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated
