Hey guys.. on Friday, last week, I started the truck and got out to load some shit and it happened........ There was smoke everywhere..squealing belt....!! I rushed to shut it down just as the belt broke and was toast....

The culprit...alternator completely seized....right outta the blue... I drove it 2 days ago...no issues....

Then I start to think....I have smelled a little burning rubber (on start-up) a few times....I've looked... no idea where it was coming from... This is a heads-up guys....!!!!

Now I know....this thing was getting worse and worse...and then finally totally seized....

It's not a big job to replace the alternator, but it's tight in there.... I then checked the pulleys...2 on top had side to side play, so did tensioner pulley... bottom pulley was stiff (going?)....

I took it to the dealer as I was not prepared to tackle this.....

    $150.00 tow job....and $1,414.12 later:eek:....
    It's just like new now....!!:D

Got all new pulleys and alternator(w/pulley) and tensioner and belt.....

What do you guys think of my great deal...????:(

This is what happens if you live in Canada....(you pay way more for everything...then add taxes that nobody else pays, and you get health care, I guess...)....

This is what it costs to live here guys...

Your "." key is gonna seize up pretty soon here, you might want to start saving up for a new one. :p

Do you have an aftermarket radio or a sub installed? My son did this to a Camaro, you guys that add thumping stereos need to remember to install a large capacitor to keep from cooking your alternator.

:rolleyes: now thats just to funny.... You just made a huge assumption based off a GM product.

I would say his siezed alternator is more due to a bearing failure than a stereo.

Now I'm just guessing but the OP user ID is "over60" and his listed age is 66 so I am willing to bet he didn't have a blasting stereo. Plus he took the vehicle to the dealer for an alternator change. So i am just guessing he really is an older person...

    Now if I'm wrong I Ass-U-me-d wrong. :D:D;)

:rofl:LOL... you got me on that one, I didn't notice the OPs age. It's the Dad can figure it out because you're doing stupid stuff instinct coming out in me.

My son did that and you could fry an egg on the alternator, it locked up so hard that it was stalling the motor.

Not one bit of "singing", or any other noise.....

I do remember now that I did notice a little rubber smell a couple of times over the past week or so, but had no idea where it was coming from...

    Oh well...so is life
