I am getting ready to put a new Diehard Platinum Group 31M battery in my truck. Since the terminal locations will be a bit different, and the stock cables are very short, I want to upgrade my battery to alternator, starter and ground cables.

I do not want to take it all apart before I actually order the cables and have them in hand, but I do want to sort out where all the connections are and how to get to them.

The wiring is hidden in loom and insulators, so it is a bit hard to tell what is what. Please help me scope out the cables and ID them. If I have these ID'd wrong set me straight.

Some photos taken while sticking the phone where the sun don't shine. :D

I installed a G31 commercial battery with top threaded studs in my tacoma without lengthening the battery cables - only the 6ga power wire to the fuse block and the body ground cable needed to be longer, so I built new ones. If you want more info, I'll dig it up. If you're set on redoing all the cables, then I'm not much help. The hold-down can be easily modified with cheap oem parts to fit a G31 too.

Go to a commercial truck shop in your area and get a price on a G31 "dual purpose" battery before you buy that Diehard, you'll be glad you did.

honestly id just get 10-12ft of cable, and cut as i went, replacing the cable and tying it in as i went.

isnt the chassis ground to the motor a cable weave going from the firewall to the aft-most part of the engine just above where the bell housing mounts? i wouldnt think that was necessary to upgrade or replace.

landphil, I would appreciate any info or shots you have of the body ground and fuse block cable changes. If you have a shot of the G31 setup that would be cool too. My starter cable seems tight even with a G27F battery.

Yes, I've done that before, but buying some pre-made marine-grade cables is pretty cheap and easy.

    I don't think so, not on a 2nd gen.
