Alternator

Hey All,

Questions about replacement alternator for my 06 4.0V6 Prerunner.

New or Remanned?

OEM or Aftermarket?

AC Delco, BBB Industries, or Remy. I know AC Delco, but are the other two any good?

What are you all using as replacements?

This is what I am looking at on Rock Auto for replacements.

 

OEM Re-manufactured from the dealer. Does it cost more, yes. Is it Denso? Yes. Is there a better chance it will work like it should? Yes.
Is there a good chance any other brand purchased from anywhere does not work as it should? Yes

this is from my experience of going through several purchases from Rockauto with problems with each one, even a Denso.

If you go with an OEM. Make sure it isn’t a reman. Toyota sells new and reman units.

I’d go with a reman Denso.
But only because the alternator is not too hard to get to, should the reman not work.

I’ve had good luck with reman Denso.
I wouldn’t recommend going with any other brand.

 

I'd look for a reman Denso, that's not quality guarantee but in the scheme of things I'd take it before the other brands mostly because allot of the well known brands from AP stores are reboxed Chinese alternators.

 

I put a Duralast in my ‘06 about 10 years ago. I have a stereo with two amps in the truck so it is pretty rough on alternators. It went bad after about 6 years of my boys abusing it. I pulled it out and got a replacement for free. My 2nd gen was and is no longer my daily driver so I went the cheap route.

When replacing, I recommend pulling the driver front tire and splash shield then pulling it out the side. Not much more work and much easier in my opinion. I could not wiggle it out from the top for the life of me.
