My 2008 4.0 has just hit 200k. I only use the truck on long drives. looking to preemptively change out the alternator. w/ Towing Package; 130 Amps

I have been looking on Rock Auto. new ACDELCO 3351302 Gold Info [IMG]
    w/ Towing Package; 130 Amps

or going with one of the custom alternators.

I have had a run of bad luck with reman parts on my trucks and at my work with the fleet trucks. I do not need more amps then 130. what brands are holding up.

Alternators are one of those things that can fail with any brand.

It's why I buy locally so I can warranty if it if something fails.

The Toyota reman is the only one I've seen with zero failures.

If your alternator hasn't failed and you want to do it right, take it out and give it to an electric shop that does re-brushing.

I went with a Toyota reman one. I was tempted to buy a Denso reman one from Rock Auto for almost half the price but was concerned about having an issue with it since I do a lot of driving and road trips. I think what sealed the deal for me was when I asked one of the service writers that helped me in the past about issues with the reman ones they install. He told me that they don’t see issues with them and wouldn’t want to install parts that had failures as they would have to deal with it.

I end up going with AutoTech engineering, co. Hp-13984-180A with the 14.8v output. I can not take out the S-loop booster for my AGM batterys.

Too late in your case but I purchased a new 130A Remy alternator for my Tacoma from Rock Auto in 2018. It is holding up fine. It was under $200 delivered.
I'm running a 6 year old X2 AGM battery in Florida.

I got a Denso OEM reman from Napa a month ago and swapped it myself. I'm no mechanic but it was a fairly straightforward job in a couple hours. Access it through the wheel well, easier than from the top to get it out/in!

The custom alternator that I ordered was a piece of junk. The electrical didn’t fit. The pulley was wrong and a bunch of other things after getting it installed.

I’m at the Toyota dealership getting factory one. Luckily, I found one in the stock local
