Anyone have an AluCab Contour Canopy with the Total Chaos or Cali Raised bed stiffeners? Just want to make sure they do not interfere with each other in any way and work together.

It should not interfere, but here is the installation video so you can get an idea of how it's mounted :

You'll be fine with either. I have the alucab explorer canopy with the TC bed stiffeners.

Thanks for taking the time to post those pictures. That was very helpful. I was looking at your build and you have almost exactly what I am shooting for. Same color truck too! Sorry in advance for all the Q's below.

    1. I have the Alu Cab on order.
    2. Purchased the RCI skid plates (flat). Gotta go get the exhaust re-route done.
    3. I was looking at Bilstein 6100 (2" up front) + 5160's along with the RTX leaf Pack (but I was thinking Stage 2 but IDK)
    4. I want to get SCS Ray 10's. I was debating between 16" and 17". I was also thinking of pizza cutters/255/75 r/16's with 16" Ray 10's and -12 offset.

    Couple of questions:

    1. Were the extended brake lines necessary. From what I was reading most have not needed to do that with the RTX leaf pack.
    2. Are you using a flip kit or bump stops?
    3. Any rubbing with that size tire? Did you need any mods of any kind or was the lift enough?
    4. Are the Toyo's noisy on the road?
    5. Shit, now I have to research ARB Carrier Bearings and ECGS Clam Shell Bushings and reconsider doing the Uppers (I was going to try to get away with not doing it).
    6. You don't seem to have a lot of weight up front do you find the 650# coils too stiff?

Thanks in advance. Love your build.

Thanks man. It sounds like you have a pretty good idea on what direction you are trying to take. I dig the Ray 10's too. I would check out the tall/skinny page in the Wheels and Tires section. I am sure there are more than a few running those options for you to get a visual on and gleam good info from. I got my exhaust rerouted from a local muffler shop around here. Paying with cash you can negotiate something pretty reasonable. The reroute with flat skids is the way to go. It's a bit more of a pain to deal with up front, but better overall in the long run. Do some research on the approach you want to go, save some good photos to share with the shop so that you can communicate what you want before they start over or underthink it.

    Answers:
1: While you might be able to get away without them, I would rather be safe than sorry.

2: I am using the DuraBumps flip kit as well as their bumps. Also running them in the front. https://durobumps.com/product-category/tacoma/3rd-gen-tacoma/ There's a couple other good ones out there, but I've run these on my 4Runner and I'm happy enough with them.

3: Not after clearancing the tires. I mean, It's a PITA, but I just suggest picking a size that should work for you and put in some work to making the size work. For me, I wanted the option to go for a 34" tire, (285/75/17). It might be less work overall to run a tall/skinny (255/85/16 or 255/80/17), but I wouldn't run too wide a wheel if you are planning on living the tall/skinny life. I would think 8" and below would be my target width. Also, look and see what tire flavors are offered between the 17" and 16" wheels. It might have changed with some new tires coming on the market, but 16" tall skinnies have been limited to "mostly" mud terrain options. There are some hybrid options in 16", but they also get pretty expensive. You might get lucky and not need a cab mount chop right away. There are too many variables to consider to give you clearance advice on fitting larger tires different wheels. I did a pretty aggressive CMC and then moved the front wheel liner plastic mostly out of the way with a heat gun and some massaging. I have yet to rub too much or at all if I recall.

4: If you are coming from stock, just about everything will be a bit louder than stock. I would say my E rated Toyo Open Country AT3's have a slight hum to them, but it's not too bad. I have mud terrains on my 4runner and those are WAY louder. I have been happy with them so far. I was also considering Mickey Thompson Baja Boss, but they are not currently offered in the 34" size. MT does offer a unique 255/85/17 (tall skinney 35"), but that's a bigger jump than I wanted to commit to. A lot of people are happy with their Toyos, but there's a lot of good options to pick from. One of the main reasons I went with Toyo AT3's was that they had a low-complaint matched with favorable reviews for multiple driving environments, and a lower overall weight compared to its competition. I have tried to be weight-conscious with my selections for this build.

5: You might get lucky and not need these items. I just wanted to buy myself some insurance and get it all done at once.

6: Well, I was trying to future-proof my build a bit. From my research, 650# coils were going to work better with my full steel skids and future front bumper/winch. I don't find this combo harsh, but ride is one of the most subjective interpretations we all have to work through here. Again, I wanted to future-proof the rear suspension by going Icon RXT set at stage 3, right out of the gate. I knew I was going to only add more weight with the Alu-Cab Contour canopy, full size spare, future rear bumper (no swing-out) and whatever crap I decide to load up for camping. I am not a fan of the level look. By the time you load up to do something fun, you end up having reverse rake. I like something aggressively close to factory rake and the ability to maintain that while loaded. I don't find this combo to be harsh. It IS more firm than factory OR suspension. I like that. I feel like the factory OR suspension was too soft and suffered from exaggerated nose-dive during braking. Now it feels way more planted, like a truck should. I think for the money, this upgraded Bilstein suspension performs great. I ordered my stuff via Hotshot Offroad. They can easily answer topics that I didn't cover very well.

    Hope that helps a bit.
