Same. If I go with the same 6lb tank I have the fire extinguisher fist grips left over from a variety box that I would put on a large L bracket (to support the bottom of the tank and up the back) then bolt the L bracket to the rail in the bed. I'll have to play with it when I get everything in hand till I know if it will simply work, seems good for a non permanent solution.

Can't argue with that guys, I was thinking the same so I could carry a larger tank like a 10lb but I was concerned mounting it would interfere with my bed drawers and I wasn't thrilled with storing propane in the closed up shell.

I'm sure carrying them in there wouldn't be a problem but I figured since I could cram a 6lb tank on the carrier I would. I'll have to keep track of grill time though as I'm used to carring a 20lb bottle on the tongue of my trailer but that got 86'd when I built the motorcycle mount on there.

I'm hoping that 6lbs will last at least a week of backcountry use for some extended trips I have brewing for next year.

    :fingerscrossed:

Thanks man, I'll have to get some of your gear soon too - perhaps something custom with my truck and trailer?

Ended up getting down to Cape Henlopen this past weekend for a camp trip with the guys. Weather was beautiful Friday and Sunday but Saturday was a little wet - fortunately we were able to setup a shanty town of ez-ups and tarps and broke out the booze to pass the time.

I was dying to take the rig and camper out on the sands and inevitably test out the Maxtrax but no dice as it was still crowded when I rolled in Friday. Snapped a glamour shot at least - the sundown ended up being pretty sweet before I headed to camp to setup.

Do you have any more detailed pictures of your drawer system? Ideally the water tank/rear portion. If not its all good. I love your build! perfect setup. Trying to modify it for my own needs.

Thanks bud, other than the ones here I don't have a whole lot of others.

I did end up taking the water tank and pump out over the summer when I coated the drawers as I just wasn't using it that often. The tank was a real pain to keep clean and tended to develop odors and goo between trips so it quickly went from cooking and drinking water to a quick way to rinse off hands and gear after trail recoveries. I decided at that point I'd rather have the extra storage space than the skunky water so I packed it up for a future project.

Anyway, between the jerrys on the trailer and my rotopax I'm carrying up to 17 gallons of potable water so I haven't had any issues between refill points.

If you were closer I'd be game haha.

Thanks for the feedback though, I honestly wish I had built more of the stuff on this rig like the bumpers and sliders but I've found it hard to make the time anymore to do it. My other beater was built from the ground up basically but was partly because there isn't much in the way of aftermarket support for Bronco II's.

The next fab project on the Tacoma is going to be undercarriage armor from front to back. While I really like the aftermarket options you can find on here I can't justify $800 for full skids.

Did you have any problems with the heat coming off of your compressor inside the compartment in the back of your bed? Or was there adequate ventilation to not have a huge problem?

Nah, haven't noticed any issues. I figure it's not a whole lot different than folks that mount these up in their trunks or something for lowriders or something.

I've run it a few times to air up the tires from 20lb to 40lb which runs the compressor for about 2 minutes per tire. I've run the same compressor in my Bronco for 7 years now for tires and lockers and it still runs like a top - the Viairs have served me well.

Super pumped to have my @allpro APEX sliders. They are looking super slick in gloss black and should be going on tomorrow!

Love this thread. Not sure what type of gloss black you painted them with but I shot mine with an Mil-Spec epoxy primer and top coat and it didn't hold up worth a shit. I ended up shooting them over with Plasti-Dip and that's held up the best. You might want to shoot the underside with Plasti-Dip and keep the gloss black on the outer edge and topside. Just a suggestion.

Thanks bud, I used VHT chassis paint (SP650?) like I used on the rear bumper. The bumper is holding up well so bar even with climbing on it with cruddy boots to strap down the kayak. Plastidip on the underside does sound like a good idea as they take some beating from stones and such on the street.

I'm thinking in the spring they'll get that and I might use some of the Monsta-liner stuff on the tops of the fill plates for extra grip and protection for that step area. Tubes will stay rattlecan as they'll need constant touchup from use.

That sounds like a plan. The cross bars towards the rear really take a beating from the "road schmutz". I figured using the epoxy paint which really takes a beating would be enough but it was down to the primer in no time at all. The plasti dip has really held up well. If that didn't work I was going to try rattle can undercoat or bedliner next. Good luck!
