Damn. Just went through the rest of your build thread. So many ideas I want to steal......

Any issues going with the dual swing out vs a single? I'd imagine it's easier on the spindle. I was set on the single for ease of access but your setup has me rethinking that. Unfortunately I won't be able to access the back area without opening up both swing arms on the 4Runner.

Thanx. I'm measuring my four treds at about 6.5", they're currently unmounted so possibly 6" compressed when they are tightened in the mount. Will be overhauling my Thule rack and basket soon. Trying to decided on a permanent height for the basket. For my needs the basket must clear self recovery ramps on the cab rac to carry surfboards, kayaks, etc..

Perhaps so, I roam quite a bit between the Hammonton/Atco to Fort Dix area

Haha thanks - That's the downside of surfing builds though, I keep a running list from others too that gets out of hand...

The dual swingout was more of a necessity than a want for me. Due to the length of the truck on its own and my need to be able to access the back of the truck with my trailer hitched up the only single swingout that would have worked would have been something like a 1/2 to 2/3 width that would have only fit the spare tire. Relocation of the spare from underneath was for a potential addition of an auxiliary fuel tank and a need for a place to hang the trasharoo. Some other build choices then mandated the relocation of the propane off the trailer to the truck and the fuel for the bike. All things considered the AP dual swing allows me to carry a bunch of stuff in a tight package and is holding up nicely (other than paint). I do have a single swingout on my Bronco II that I fabbed up and prefer it on the short wheelbase as access is quicker than the double swing. A long single swing also provides some real estate for a fold down table like @Chux runs here.

It's all pros and cons depending on your needs versus wants.

Have you taken any trips with the new 6lb propane tank? Interested on the feedback.

I haven't cooked a whole lot with it unfortunately, if I remember right it has weekend trip of dinners on it with my old coleman stove that had terrible fuel control. If I had to guess it'd be about 40 minutes of run time on it and still weighs the same. The scale is only accurate to the nearest 1/4lb or so so it's difficult to say. It's looking like I'll have a weekend worth of cooking coming up the weekend after next on the new 22" Partner stove so I'll let you know how that goes. The test run of the Partner stove on my 20lb was really nice, it's super easy to clean and has great fuel control to really dial heat way down or way up.

I follow the DRT guys on facebook but I hadn't see the Mid Atlantic Overland Society on there. I've been wanting to get down to one of DRT's meet in the woods trips when they pop up but it hasn't ever fit in the schedule haha. Reason you ask or suggesting resources?

I can't speak for this build's OP, but most guys typically create build pages to track progress and answer questions from the curious folk.

In my case, I love answering questions about our trucks and other things...that's why we're on the forum, right?

A question or two is not thread jacking or creating a big problem. We were all new to the scene at one point...

Kickass build man! Love the custom work you've been doing and how neat/tidy your installs looks. Definitely will be looking here for some ideas. Thank so much for sharing your progress.

Still nailing down many of the details but this weekend will be a short trip with some friends to central PA, early to mid June will be a trip to Oregon and California (unfortunate sans truck and trailer), late June is a motorcycle weekend around the pines in Jersey, August will hopefully be UP Michigan and September looks like it might be a long weekend in our neighbor to the north.

Somewhere in all this I still need to check off some major build milestones including getting solar setup on the Tacoma along with a full set of skids. I'm still considering doing a regear to 4.10 or 4.56 at some point with ARB's, it'll probably be the fall at this rate.

Thanks dude, I'm glad I did it as it's been super practical. I like having a home for all the tools, straps and air accessories so they don't get buried under camping chairs, firewood, totes and everything else that ends up riding along on trips.

No worries - It's an easy install other than getting the actual switch out of the dash. If I remember right I didn't pull the radio surround at the time I only loosen the bolts or something which made it hard to get to the clips on the back of the switch.

I think it was worth the work though and I have no idea why Toyota couldn't do this from the factory :der:
