I love this setup I got rid of my topper for a four wheel camper but if I was to go back I’d definitely go this route with the shell

I'm sure this has probably been discussed so forgive me, but..

Are there any DCU shells built for other trucks that fit a second gen long bed good enough? I know the geometry on the aluminum caps is much more simple and doesnt really seem to vary from truck to truck. I know the plastic trim on the tailgate hatch is molded to fit but I bet that can be mended easy enough. Would love to hear from experience.

Can anyone confirm that you can fit a sheet of plywood (4’x8’) on the standard aluminum roof rack? The aluminum rack that comes with some of the toppers.

Canadian Joe, do you have any pictures from the side, front at regular height? Trying to finalize this order, I'm on the fence with the size of the box, those images might help. Appreciate if you can post some and understand if can't. Happy New Year. Josh

Thanks! Doesn't look too tall :). I'm struggling with a way to take 3 or more mountain bikes, we tow a small trailer and the hitch on the back of the trailer is useless, so this should work. Now to decide if I should pay extra to match my black truck (hot), go white or hope that the grey matches my trailer.

Anyone know how well a Ranger cap fits on a second gen long bed? I'm looking at one for sale in my area for 50$, perfect for camping with my wife and the dogs.

Width should be fine, they around an inch shorter.
I added a 1" aluminum angle to the front of my cap, works great.

You got any pictures? I'm guessing to fit that gap and seal the front of the bed?

The cap is sitting sideways on the bed.

Interesting, might have to do that. Hopefully that'll work with a 2nd gen.

Does anyone else’s dcu have bars like this? That don’t touch the roof skin going length wise. This doesn’t seem right.

What brand? My ARE definitely doesn’t look like that.

They cut something, and it wasn't the right corners. Maybe they had a new welder in training build yours. I hope it holds up to your needs.

That's a warrantee issue for sure. No way I'd be willing to accept that.

Is that a new topper (ARE classic Aluminum) or an older model you put on your rig? I am trying to determine if you can still find the old style aluminum caps for a 3rd gen Tacoma. Thanks

Has anyone ever tried to "reskin" an aluminum camper shell? I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a used shell for my truck. This one on craigslist has been temping me for months but it's pretty beat up. I'm wondering how hard of a DIY job it is to replace the door skins. The back doors are bashed from the inside and it looks like someone took an angle grinder to a side door too.

I'm sure it's doable, but it had better be for free.
